It is interesting to note the Military is treating the protesters like a child you love but is in distress while Mubarak's police treat them as enemy combatants. If the army fully joins the side of the protesters as as happened in Tunisia, Mubarak is gone and now that the people will not become brutalized and will march on...the Egyptian army will be smart to make their bed with the right group. After all, the old tyrant will die soon but the institution of Egypt Army will live on and desires the respect and veneration by the average Egyptian.
