That sounds very good. I'm surprised cuz it seems a lot of people in the U.K got to uni then.

Ruralman,
Yeah its true that it is easier in the U.K because of the system. Interest free loans are radily available which makes it a lot more affordable.
In somewhere like The Netherlands where they have a system comparable to the former 11+ entrance system of the U.K it is definately a lot harder for people to get into university. Children take a test in year 8 (aged 12) that determines their entire future and the choices open to them. They call it the Cito toets and if you get below a HAVO your basically fucked and you'll end up in a shit high-school that will lead you to either prison or being a cleaner (or other such jobs) (IMO). They limit the ambitions and oppertunites of people from young on and this sysem serves for 'allocation of future roles within society' so you basically get the poor, immigrants and ethnic minorities in crappy jobs whilst the white & affluent in professional jobs.
In the U.K the 11+ exam was ablolished which makes it far easier to get into university as everyone has a fair chance to take their GCSE's> A-Levels ---> entrance into uni = more likely to get a degree.

Hyper,
Yeah a lot of people do drop out cuz they find it too difficult. I'm in my second year too

BV,
Yeah it might change when univeristy tuition goes up but it should't really cuz they still get the loans, although they'll pay it back.
