South Sudan and Somaliland

The Khartoum-based Arabic daily Al-Intibaha this week reported that the government of Sudan expressed deep concerns about a recent trip to South Sudan by Somaliland’s former civil aviation minister, Mr. Ali Mohamed ‘Waran Adde”. The newspaper quoted one of the senior officials in Omar Al Bashir’s cabinet saying the visit was to strengthen bilateral ties between Somaliland and South Sudan. He also claimed the two states were planning to have trade, defence and military ties.
Omar Al Bashir and number of Arab leaders have long maintained they would block any international recognition for Somaliland. They claim Somaliland was part of Somalia and that they would not tolerate foreign interference in an Arab League member nation.
What good have those stupid arabs ever done for the Somali people.......
Quick question: Did the southern sudanese govenrment promise to recognize somaliland once it gains full independence?

I have never met one Iidoor who understands politics. How much times does it have to be mentioned that no country will recognise Somaliland. Not because it doesnt want to. Ethiopia, South Sudan wouuld probably be thrilled at the prospect of Somalia tearing into pieces however the question of Somaliland is, does it have a legal justification under the UN and the answer is no. Until a referendum from Mogadishu takes place there, no country can recognise Somaliland. Simple
When will this recognition begging ever end? Now yall are resorting to South Sudan which is a poverty stricken country that cant survive without Khartoum.
Waa yaab

A 2005 African Union report pointed out that the union in 1960 between Somaliland and Somalia was never formally ratified.
There's your legal justification.What now?

You simply dont get it, do you? Somaliland and Somalia joined in a union as equals hence why somaliland does not need somalia to withdraw from the union.
Senegal and gambia joined to form Senegambia. When Gambia withdrew from the union did they need a referendum?. And in any case if there ever was a referendum it would take place in Somaliland and you know already what the outcome wud be.

Well first of all , although the people of northern Sudan are our brothers /sisters we do not have any relations with the gov of Omar al Bashir . Secondly I do not think mr Mr. Ali Mohamed ‘Waran Adde” went to Southern Sudan as an official of the current administration .
Until a referendum from Mogadishu takes place
how dumb is this guy ?
It is not for the citizens of Mogdiscio or southern Somalia to vote on whether Somaliland should become its own country dumb ass , just like anybody didn't ask the Serbs if they would let go of the Bosnians , the indonesians would let East Timor go her seperate way or ask the citizens of Isreal for that matter if the Palestinians should become an internationally recognized state .
My point here is , a referendum on
self determination { a measure put forth before the people
who want to break away not the other way around} has been already voted and passed in somaliland with an overwhelmingly YES for self determination !

i am Somalilander and idoor. but i have to agree Ruralman on the idea that it is quite unlikely that some foreign country will come out of blue and recognise somaliland. it is highly unlikely, laakiin dee wax walba iska filo, sababta oo ah ictiraafkii kosovo ee reer galbeedku muu wafaqsanayn sarciga caalamiga ah. sidoo kale somaliland being an afircan country makes that prospect more difucult.sikastaba ha ahatee I am in favour of a change in our ictiraaf_raadis strategy. i think our foriegn poligy was wrong all along but we have benefited immensely in terms of building a stable and democratic system that ecourages investment and economic growth. A faulty policy ayaanu ka helnay fa'idooyin lama filaana oo qaarkood nasiib wanaag uun ku yimaadeen, laakiin su'ashu waxay tahay mar walba ma nasiib ayaanu isku haleynaynaa??
