U.K Foreign Minister (William Hague) Africa Speech
Hague is delivering a speech now about Africa on BBC news live. Very interesting.
He spoke about what is going on in Libya and said that autocratic regimes elsewhere, particularly in subsaharan Africa should "take heed". He was pushing the idea that Sub-Saharan Africa is next and that the wave of unrest/"revolutions" are only in their early stages; that this will be a "historic period" and a big "oppertunity" for the "international" community.
He mentioned Somaliland and spoke about Somalia twice . He praised the A.U for sending troops to Somalia, which he described as a very challening conflict. He mentioned Somaliland when speaking of the democratic countries in Africa, highlighting the peaceful transfer of power to the new adminstration and commending its democratic credentials.
The second time he spoke about Somalia he was addressing the piracy issue, announcing the allocation of £6 mil to a number of countries fro the prosecution of Pirates.
Interestingly, when listing autocratic regemis across Africa he named Eritrea, Zimbabwe and others, whilst ignoring ethiopia.

There are many countries where democracy is flourishing or where hard won gains are being consolidated. Botswana has provided a pillar of political stability and democracy in the continent since its independence. Ghana, Malawi, Zambia and Sierra Leone have all seen peaceful transfers of political power with Niger and Guinea Conakry both holding peaceful elections in the last year. Even in a country as wrought with conflict as Somalia, the stable region of Somaliland enjoyed a remarkable transfer of democratic power from one elected government to an opposition party last summer. And in Sudan we will see Africa’s newest nation come into being this year following a remarkably peaceful referendum on secession, accepted by North Sudan, which Britain worked very hard to achieve, making it an early priority of our foreign policy to focus the UN Security Council on the potential crisis there and demonstrating that targeted engagement from the international community can achieve very real results.

juzme, if he mentioned us at least we do not brag about what a Westerner says or predicts about our country. I wish I could say the same thing about SNM land, jubilating whenever they get mentioned like a teacher telling his pupils well done you have a star today here is your sticker. SNM land the last true orphans of the Queen.
