Somali national gets life sentence for vicious murder in London

A British judge sentenced a 25-year-old Somali man to life imprisonment for the execution-style murder of 18-year-old student Mahir Osman in January 2006, according to a report dated March 21.

Ahmed Farah, 25, was found guilty of what was described as a heinous murder and sentenced to life, but may only serve a minimum of 16 years imprisonment.

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Lawrence of Scotland Yard said: "Farah was part of a group of men who went to Camden with the sole intention of attacking anyone belonging to an opposing rival group. It was a premeditated attack using a level of violence I have rarely seen.

"I would also like to praise the work of the CCTV operators of Camden Council and the first police officers on the scene who did an excellent job of identifying the group and following them both pre and post attack," said DCI Lawrence.

On Saturday, 28 January 2006 at 10:40 PM (London Time) police were called to a disturbance involving a large group of male youths in Camden Road. Mahir Osman, an unmarried mechanical engineering student, had been stabbed and died at 2:30 AM on Sunday, January 29, 2006, in the Royal Free Hospital.

The court heard that the youths, including Farah, who were from a group of north London Somalis, stabbed Mr. Osman more than 20 times. Nineteen stab wounds punctured the back of his body, which ultimately proved fatal.

The jury heard testimony that as the gang of Somali men attacked him, they shouted "Stab him through the heart! Stab him dead through the heart!"

The group of attackers were seen earlier that evening arming themselves with bottles, knives, hammers and pieces of wood, according to witnesses.

Its believed that the motive for the attack was that the group was involved in a dispute with a rival Somali group based in Camden and Osman was singled out because of his suspected association with that group.

Two contributing factors appear to have been Mr. Osman's presence during a fight in a nightclub in on December 17, 2005, and a serious assault which followed this on December 19, 2005, when a friend of Mr. Osman's had been arrested.

Enquiries established that the murder had been captured on CCTV and that up to 40 people were involved in the incident leading up to the attack on Mr. Osman. Mr. Osman had been out with friends that evening and was standing at a bus stop when the group approached him. While Mr. Osman was attacked, his friend fell to the floor where he was kicked by one of the gang who also tried to hit him. Mr. Osman's friend escaped despite being pursued by at least one member of the gang, according to trial testimony.

According to this article they were shouting Stab him through the heart. Pack of wild animals wallahi. I have no sympathy for him.
