Where were you when this show first came on air?
Every time I hear Ricki Lake's intro theme, I think about my grade school Somali friend who's name rhymed with SEGA. I remember the first day he was introduced to our class, our morbidly obese AA teacher thought since he was African, light skinned, with curls, that he too must be able to speak my African language. She told me to translate what he was saying on numerous occasions, even though I told the heffa that I was born in America.
Long story short, he lived in the same neighborhood as me, so he used to come over to my house a lot and watch color tv with cable (he had black and white at home). Even though we had a language barrier, we always knew what we were saying with simple gestures. It was not till a show called Ricki Lake appeared that this guy started speaking English paragraphs. Once Ricki Lake came on, his English went from non-existent to broken with subtitles. Ricki Lake's show and her platoon of single mother guests is the reason why this dude speaks English today.
In honor of SEGA!

You were watching Ricki Lake show in grade school? That show was at least PG13 if not R rated. Where were your parents?

It came on after power rangers in California (don't know about other time zones). Then they moved the time zones to 8pm after it became a hit with single mothers and promiscuous 40 something cougars.Archerr wrote:You were watching Ricki Lake show in grade school? I agree with archer, I was not allowed to watch many shows except those that aired on our local kpbs channel, since I didnt have cable, I would always go to my neighbors Aaron or Danny who were pervs by nature and their teenage sisters use to practice making out on us and showing us porn lol, I loved their mothers though, one had swearing jar where we deposited 25cent everytime we cussed and even though I was debt free at first, I learned to cuss like a sailor in no time. I miss the 90's though, go to school, come back, play with the neighborhood kids until sunset, watch T.V for a little bit and go to bed.

ON topic though
Eritreans according to my experience are nice hardworking people here in Sweden. But still a Habesha is a habesha. Therefore i couldnt find myself being best friends or close to them.

I see what you mean. It did change a lot over the years. Same with the Jenny Jones show and the Murray show as well. They started out pretty innocent but by the end of the shows life it was straight up porn.

90s is hard to explain. You have to be in California to get the full-effect of 90s in America. Perhaps the peak of American civilization was the 90s and the 2000s was the decline. Same with the Soviets, they peaked in the 70s and slowly declined in the 80s and collapsed in early 1990s.
White people and their swearing jars....lol...Dawg, I thought u were OG, why you got the Somaliland flag on your avatar? Based on my experiences in San Diego (your ol hood), isn't San Diego dominated by the Ogaden clan? San Diego is like an ONLF festival these days.

I was still pretty young when this show came on but I remember my older cousin watching it. I remember because the audience would always shout Go Riki when she came out.

I find it hard to believe that your friend had a black and white TV 40 yrs after colour TV was invented. I call 'bullshit' on your little story there.Belew wrote:he used to come over to my house a lot and watch color tv with cable (he had black and white at home).
