The only real somali think tank in the horn of africa,and the same institution that organized the Khaatumo consultative meeting of the Dhulbahante diaspora and the same institue that prepared the first real budget of TFG(the 2011)

and implemented many programs in east africa on behalf of the AU,UN,IMF,world bank..etc


and here are the men behind the institue

Dr. Ali Issa Abdi (American) has MBA in International Finance and PhD in Economics.

Dr. Abdi worked as Senior Economist and Manager at the International Monetary Fund for nearly three decades. Most recent assignments at the IMF were as an Advisor in the African region, and Senior Resident Representative in Tanzania (2001-04) and in Ethiopia (1998-2001). Other professional experience includes work as an economist with Citibank and the Central Bank of Somalia; and lecturer in economics at several universities in the United States.

Dr. Abdi provided macroeconomic policy advice to more than 30 countries in Africa, Middle East and the Western Hemisphere, during his distinguished career at the IMF. He participated in the formulation of economic and social policy reforms in many countries in Africa, including Ghana and Nigeria (in the West); Eritrea, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda (in the East), and Mauritius, Mozambique and Zimbabwe (in the South). Dr. Abdi led staff teams that conducted annual consultations and program negotiations with, and provided technical assistance to member countries of the IMF for many years. Dr. Abdi’s many publications include a book on commercial banks and economic development in Eastern Africa, and articles on economic development and monetary systems, as well as reforms and transformation in low income countries.

Mr. Mohammed Burale Farah (Somali-Ethiopian) holds M. Sc in Water Resources (Irrigation and Drainage Engineering). He also completed several post-graduate studies in agriculture, water resources development planning and on-farm water resources management from USA Universities of Washington, Utah and Colorado.

He is the current Chairman of the Executive Board of HESPI and a Senior Associate. He has an M.Sc. Water Resources (Irrigation & Drainage Engineering). From 1968 to present, Mr. Farah has been engaged in both professional and high level managerial tasks in the fields of Management, policy planning, and development of agriculture, rural and water resources/irrigation in Somalia and countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Mr. Farah joined the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 1982 and his assignments at the FAO were: FAO Country Representative in Pakistan (2007-09) and in Sierra Leone (2002-06); in Iraq FAO North Iraq Coordinator (1997-2002); in Yemen FAO Project Manager (1990-94); in Sierra Leone FAO Project Manager (1985-90); and Saudi Arabia as FAO Irrigation Expert (1982-85).
Other professional and management experiences include work in Somalia as Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and Chairman of the National Water Resources Development Committee (1980-82); General Manager of the Somali-Libyan Agricultural Development Company (1975-80) and Director of the Irrigation Department Ministry of Agriculture (1968-75).

Mr. Ali Abdulkadir Farah (Somali) worked as an official of the United Nations. Senior Information Officer and Editor at the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
He covered economic developments in the region, including poverty reduction, trade and debt issues, as well as prepared press and special briefings (1984-89, 1991-99 & 2003-05). Registration officer of the UN Western Sahara mission (1999-2003). Information Officer/Spokesman, UN Iran and Iraq mission (1989-91). Qatar Times News Editor (1982-84); Chief Correspondent, Dubai Times (1976-82); and Director Foreign languages programming of Radio Mogadishu (1968-76).

HESPI is a research Institute and think tank established to promote high-quality policy analysis and advisory services to assist African governments, the private sector and other stakeholders of the development of the region. HESPI conducts commissioned studies and interacts with principal institutions and entities to address the challenges the region faces. HESPI's focus also covers institutional capacity building and instilling values for better management of social and broad-based sustainable economic growth aimed at a prosperous future for the region.

Very impressive CV and projects.

But where on their website does it say anything about a tribal think tank? Somalida are centuries behind the rest of the world because they love to equate everything with tribe

exec:it looks like these guys have been carrying out all the jobs of a ministery of dhaqaalah since 2008.anything from preparing a budget to renewing somalia's membership in different bodies of ecnonomic organzation..etc

here is the founder and executive director talking about how he isnt interested in politics,cuz he was offered to be a minister or even to throw his hat in the prime ministerial race but he didnt want it :shock:

Nobleman:qabiil doesnt contradict with qaranimo,these guys are a somali think tank,yet it doesnt mean they dont operate on the tribal level(in a positive way)

I saw that they were Chairing the SSC conference but didn't know who they were, they were sitting next to Prof Ali Khalif Galaydh.

these were the guys who were behind the whole thing, it was because of their hard work and professionalism, foresight and love for their people that the whole thing worked, they weren't backing any group but rather natural and wanted the best possible outcome for the greater good of Dhulbahante, may Allah reward them for their dedicated hard-work.

executive,the rumer has it that guy is running for president on August,and by his own admitance he said he refused ministerial posts in the past.check out the interview on taleex.neet
