Among the scribes who dwell in the republic of letters Nuruddin Farah has always occupied a proud spot in my personal library. Novels like the Blood in the Sand trilogy are enough to make one forget momentarily just what a lot of wastrels the Somali race is and flash a gap toothed smile.
