Map of Somalia's Resources

Post by Monk-of-Mogadishu »

Purple - Industrial metals
Orange - Uranium
Black - Oil
Blue - Agricultural Resources
Gold - Gold
-------------------------------------

Feel free to make any suggestions for future additions.

A lot of these resources overlap in a single region but I only reflected the most coveted resource per region.

The Blue areas are developed agricultural regions mainly fed by rivers. The Orange areas represent the Central Somalia uranium hub starting just north of Hiiraan region and going all the way through Mudug; there is also a uranium field in Afgooye. The Gold areas represent the gold deposits in Western Bari and Eastern Sanaag between Badhan and Bosaso. The Black areas represent oil, in the Nugaal basin and the "Calmadow" basin; the first block stretches from Eyl to Buuhoodle along the Nugaal depression, the second basin stretches from Xafun and goes like a boomerang around central Bari and goes all the way to Bosaso; there is also a second oil field offshore in coastal north Mudug in the area around Garacad. The last major resource are industrial metals, these are everywhere in the country, they are scattered across southern Somalia primarily between Bardheere to Jowhar but entirely overshadowed by agricultural development except in Baay region; the second major theater for metals is the northwest where deposits are found all over Western Sanaag and Waqoyi Galbeed with a key deposit of Copper in the area around Sheikh; there are also isolated deposits in the areas around Qardho and Saylac as well. Gemstones and lesser resources were omitted.

Its always been rumored and Chevron even purchased the exploration rights but no one's ever gone the distance to explore it further. Conoco-Phillips pursued Nugaal in the past, Range is now pursuing Bari & Nugaal, the Chinese are pursuing Mudug but no one's looking at Berbera at the moment. I do actually think there is oil offshore in Berbera but no one believes in it enough to put money into it and as a result there's limited information out there.

How much further do you want to embarrass yourself tonight?

If you look at the map you can clearly see that "Southern Nugaal" - which in reality is just Burtinle, is not even painted on the map. And about "North-Eastern Mudug":

16 Jul 2007
CNOOC has been granted exploration rights by Somalia's interim government. The China state owned CNOOC met with Somali government officials last month to firm up details of its survey program, which is due to begin in September. The CNOOC rights cover northern Somalia's Mudug region, following a production-sharing agreement signed in May 2006, which sets aside 51% of potential revenue for the transitional government. Man you're embarrassing yourself, let me help you out.

Dishiishe live exclusively around Bosaso, they eat what everyone else there eats, idiot, you probably thought they lived in Sanaag. :|

Secondly, there's oil in Dulbahante areas because they share the same land as the adjacent Majerteen clans in the other half of the Nugaal basin. However, Conoco-Phillips never paid a penny to go near Lascanood, they did all of their exploration in and around Garowe. They built their camp in Garowe, they stored their equipment, including their pipes, in Garowe, their air field was in Garowe. Do you get the pattern now?

I didn't say the offshore oil belongs to Somalia, but belongs to whoever's shores it is. For example, there are oil reserves in the shores of Sanaag, Seylac, Bari and so forth.

Even if Pinky was the mayor of LasaSurad, there's no oil in the vicinity. Peace out pinky, your contributions have been absolute shit, thanks for visiting. :)
