I have some questions about Bosaso since you're there. Can you tell me the average prices and inquiries into the following items:

-Cost of a Gallon or Half-Gallon of Milk
-Cost of a Pack of Cigarettes
-Cost of a bottle of coca cola or any other soft drink - and what variety of soft drinks are out there?
-Cost of a full meal in the city
-What kind of Ice Cream vendors are out there? And are there any kind of smoothie vendors?

Also, anyone who has recently been to Hargeisa, Gaalkacyo, Xamar or any other big cities feel free to chime in on these commodity prices. :)

no one buys a gallon of milk people measure there milk using a cup and pour it for you.

i remember cigs are realy cheap people mostly buy 1 individual or 3 cigs for the price of 2

2$ for a full meal

the only ice cream i saw was a popsicle

they have shaani, coke, pepsi

you get home made smoothie everyday to enjoy with your dinner :D

1. I was using gallon as a unit of measurement, I know there aren't specialized containers there.

2. Why is food so expensive? $4 can get you a full meal in AMERICA!

You do know, although they except the dollar they use Somali shillings because most things cost under a dollar.

this is what I remember when I was there.

Cost of meals differs. A plate of rice/pasta with suqaar for one person is between 15,000 to 16,000 S.Sh. The exchange rate for $1 for like 33,000 Somali shillings.
Drinks are like 15,000 to 22,000 S.sh depending on the brand.
There are smoothie vendors in Galkacyo. The mango and banana smoothie I use to love use to cost me about 7,000 S.Sh per glass. They don't use gallons to measure milk and most people can't afford to buy milk so they use Anchor or Nido powder milk.

Others I have no idea.

I thought that as well, but you'd still imagine the currency would devalue the prices.

Good enough. I'm just looking for a price index of local goods, I can find commodities and market prices online but its largely useless to me.

Waryaa - thanks! If you can add further prices of other goods that would be awesome.

They exist. Even Tip-Top brand was stolen by this ice cream shop near Bakaara market. They sold either cone or cup. Imported gellato from Dubai.

Your choice of either vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. Popular place too. A cone was around $.40 and a cup around $.35
