Youth and intellectual group in Puntland condemn the Kampala

Today 14 06 2011 members of youth group and intellectuals in Puntland held meeting in Galkaio. The participants of the meeting condemned and categorically rejected the Kampala accord between the two Sharif.

The participants discussed extensively on the articles of the accord and debated the potential ramifications of the agreement on Somali peace process. Participants believe that the agreement will abort the progress made bye the government of the Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo and wipe out the hope of Somalia’s for peace and democracy.

Participants described the result of Kampala Accord as an agreement serving for the interest of the two persons and have no value for national interest. On the other hand, the accord explicitly breaches the spirit of the transitional charter because in this accord the power of the parliament was implicitly handed over to external actors (Augustine Mahiga United Nations Special Representative and Yoweri Museveni Uganda President).

At the end of the meeting the participants made the following appeal.

1. Participants congratulate for the awakening Somali’s who unanimously protested against Kampala Accord. We commend your sacrifice and encourage you to continue this unprecedented revival of nationalism spirit.

2. Participants expressed unreserved support for the PM Farmajo and encouraged him/his cabinet to continue to serve for the nation and complete the remaining transitional task.

3. We call the international community to support Somalia’s and avoid unjustified meddling.

4. UN is supposed to facilitate for Somalia to resolve their problems and remain neutral, non interfering force. Unfortunately Ambassador Augustine Mahiga tragically breached neutrality and like his predecessor acted out of UN principles and Somali national interest for this reason, we call the immediate resignation of Ambassador Mahiga.

5. TFG parliament should side with the aspiration of Somali people who unanimously support extend term for the current Prime Minister and his cabinet.

6. The parliament must initiate impeachment action against the two Shariff.
