What flag was raised in Hargeisa on June 26, 1960?

Post by Voltage »

As you know I support Somaliland independence, but lately it has become fashionable by reer Hargeisa folk to lie about history. They say Somaliland was an independent country before (a lie, Somaliland was a British protectorate through various independent clan treaties) or that it was recognized (a lie, there is no record in the history of the world about a Somaliland country), or that it was a member of the UN (the UN website has date of every nation's entry into the UN), etc.

So my question is if Somaliland and Somalia had not already finalized union while as colonies, what independent flag did the Somaliland independent country put up on June 26, 1960?

The Blue flag with the star was developed by Maxamed Cawaale Liibaan in the 1954 Italian Somalia UN Trusteeship and in 1956 was picked as the future flag of an independent Somalia. Why would the independent and republic Somaliland put up the flag of Somalia if it was actually independent and recognized state?

No because a man wouldn't insult the city that broke the wall and opened the door to Somali nationalism

'Neways voltage, this flag was risen :som: ,because the people wanted Unity, Egal (AUN) and the Somaliland cabinet which consisted of
The Somaliland Cabinet:
1- Mohamed Ibrahim Egal – Prime Minister
2- Garad Ali Garad Jama – Minister
3- Ahmed Hajji Duale (Keyse) – Minister
4- Hajji Yusuf Iman – Minister
5- Hajji Ibrahim Nur – Minister

in 1960,Egal wanted Somaliland to be a country for atleast 6 months before uniting with Somalia, A women in hargeisa through a pepsi bottle in his head and shouted for unity
Also, Minister Garad Ali Garad Jama asked the leaders and chief tribes of Somaliland to remain independent but the crowd roared with famous Somali Proverb "Laa Yaa GARAD" which means NO MR. GARAD

2 months after unity, People of Somaliland were angry and dissapointed, as aden cade names his cabinet, he chose mostly of in-experienced ministers instead of choosing ministers with masters degrees in economics and politics ,therefor the first ever Somali military coup happened lead by an Ciidagelle man named Abdullah Saeed Abbi, followed by Mohammed Ahmed, and Hassan Kayd
The government imprisoned all those officers involved in the coup and later released them to participate in 1964 war with Ethiopia. Somalia had no military forces equivalent to the jailed officers.

Yet Cigaal and the northern politicians were more than happy in the army officer's arrest and continued to serve the Republic with Cigaal rising to be Prime Minister in 1967. Again, the coup officers don't matter and weren't representative of even the northern politicians. My question and the point I want to get across is what flag was raised on June 26, 1960 and doesn't that show there never was an independent Somaliland?

You can have many arguments to separate but let us not lie about history.

I told you, this flag was raised :som: , as prior to our independence we were willing to go for unity before everything
even the most irresistible offers we let down for the sake of unity
"Queen of England and Wales offered Somaliland leaders to bring Somali-speaking areas like Hawd and Reserve Area (5th Region of Ethiopia) and NFD (Northern Frontier District) under Somaliland administration, but Somalilanders who were enthusiastic to independence turned down the offer and demanded expulsion of British from Somaliland."
and what are you talking about, Somaliland was recognized by 34 countries in june 27th,the flag was raised in hargeisa, and it was raised AFTER in xamar, because it was already in the plans, the fake unity that died in 1991.

stop asking silly questions..
ofcourse it was not an independent country, the people wanted unity at all costs and did not listen to reason.
We were offered recognition from over 60 countries on that day, with the UK and isreal the first..
We refused and here we are now lamenting this today.

but i dont understand the significance of this?

who cares?

whats important is somaliland today..

We do not celebrate june 26 in my house,
only 1st july and 18th may.

If independence occured while the British had control of both Waaqohin and Kunfur the story would be different. The first flag raised in the north should not be an article of negativity for it would serve better uses as an article of unity. The confusion occurs from the conflicting revisionism of the truth between northern and southern perspectives on historical union ideals.

Union to northerns was a romantic symbol and one into which they were propelled head first with eyes closed.

Union to southerners to this day is a mere means to an end and i can't for the love of god even understand why it is more precious then peace.

:som: Represented the union of all lands belonging to somalis including Djbouti, Kilil/Ogadeen and NFD.

By the same token :som: is inappropriate for use only in Moqadishu since non of the original members subscribe and as a result Kunfur needs to adopt a new flag representative of the current political reality of the somalis on the horn of africa.

The blue flag was raised in Hargisea on June 26th 1960 and you know it. What a stupid question. Plus where the flag was made is irrelevant as no other Somali territory was independent on that day.
