Why do Somalis seem to favor one group over the other? From operational and mission stand point, Alshabab are exact duplicate of Darwish movement in its early days. They both were/are ruthless and have achieved success through harsh crack downs of their enemies. Why was the Mad Mullah better in the eyes of Somalis than Ahmed Godane. The Dervish were Sufis. I actually believe that Darwish were more ruthless towards Somali clans. The Sayid even explicit qabil sexual references against some clans, from what I've heard.

Somalistan it's usually a certain type of Somalis that try to promote the Dervish movement as an ideal movement. When infact it was not much different than the present day Barbaric Al shabab.
