Al shabab, Darawish of 21st century?

Why do Somalis seem to favor one group over the other? From operational and mission stand point, Alshabab are exact duplicate of Darwish movement in its early days. They both were/are ruthless and have achieved success through harsh crack downs of their enemies. Why was the Mad Mullah better in the eyes of Somalis than Ahmed Godane. As you know Ahmed godane is also quite the orator as much as Zayid abdalle hassan was
