I think people have forgotten that Somalia had a huge Asian/Arab community before the civil war. In 1950, Xamar had around 95,000 permanent residents, Roughly 30,000 were Somali, yet 12,000 Reer Xamar and 10,000 Arabs each.

I'm not suprised with ppl speaking Somali now anymore. Because of the Somali population all over the world, Somali language is so popular that even some places it may be a required skill to do your job, or extra credit if you put it in your resume.

It's usually people that aren't from areas where there's been a lot of Somali Cad-cad back home that go :o when they see Cad-cad speaking Somali.

Here in Ohio it is actually...and they offer it in two major universities (Ohio State Uni and Ohio Uni) :up:

Waa iska caadi, an indhoyar man spoke to me in af somali at woodbine mall, I was shocked like for a second.

You're lucky if you didn't do what a guy I know did a while ago in Egypt.

He was on a bus with couple of his friends when he started saying some shit about an "Arab" lady on the bus.

After a fem moment she turns around and goes, "Nabad maahinoo?" He froze in his seat and was so embarrassed that he got off the bus before his destination.
