Al Shabaab's five minutes of fame seems to be ending...in the latest movement after the TFG/Amisom in Mogadishu, Ahlu Sunnah in Galgaduud, and the forces in Gedo, locals in Jowhar have dusted off their arms and have prepared to fight
It started when they ordered every family to "donate" a son to their ranks (they must be feeling the heat) or instead give two She-camels (in time of drought?). The locals have immediate resisted and put a united armed front

Wararku waxaa ay intaasi ku darayaan in Maleeshiyaad kasoo jeeda deegaanka ay bilaabeen inay hubkooda lasoo baxaan si ay isaga difaacaan Xarakada Al Shabaab, waxaana saakay ilaa xalay hakad ku jira goobihi ganacsiga kadib markii deegaankaasi ay isku horfariisteen Maleeshiyadka iyo Ciidamada Al Shabaab.
Dadka deegaanka ah oo qaarkood la hadlay Idaacadda Shabelle ayaa waxaa ay shegeen in xiisadahaani cabsi iyo baqdin ay ku abuurtay dadkaasi kuwaasi oo la daalaa dhacayay abaaraha ku dhuftay deegaandooda.

I really hope the locals in Baidoa and Kismaayo also take the initiative. Al Shabaab can collapse in a matter of days without any local support to shelter them in the bushes as happened when the Ethiopians were in the country and people hid/supporter because of anti-Ethiopia nationalism

Al Shabab have shown the level of their disregard for the life of Somalis with the draught situation.
But to fight now? Still during a draught and so close to Ramadan?

I think this is more of an irritant than a real uprising. Essential reason folks are agitated is that they are being asked to donate a son or camels at a time of a severe drought and famine and the general population is unable to fulfill these predatory rules. Most likely, Shabab will back-off and the people will go back to their homes waving their arms in celebration, lol. Realistically, it's not possible to sustain an upraising in the Middle Shabelle Region for the simple fact that there is no reliable conduit of logistics and weapons supplies. Gedo, Galgaduud and Jubooyinka Regions are lucky in the sense that they are border areas and the anti-Shabab forces have a room to regroup, coordinate and re-arm with bordering nations. The defense of Shabelle Valley lies in Mogadishu and this is why it is important to secure Mogadishu. Once Mogadishu is liberated, the Shabelle Valkey will automatically be liberated as most troops fighting in Mogadishu hail from the Middle Shabelle Valley.

Times they are a-changing, bro. Mudulood is unfortunately disorganized possibly beyond repair and theres so much conflicting opinions and commitments to heal the wounds and approach our historical/social/political responsibility.

Ciyaal,
It was the sum of many changes that brought about the perfect storm. It started with the rise of the Islamic Courts and the curtailing the powers of the traditional leadership; that and the unfortunate deaths of some of the leading Mudulood figures such Dr Hussain Haji Bood, Gen Ahmed Jilacow, Nuur Dagle, Eng Caddow, Macalin Nuur Mohamed Siyad, imam Mohamud Imam Mohamed and among others who were well respected and controlled the opinions and leadership orientation of the clan all died around the same time creating a real vacuum. That's why the leadership of the new Imam when he is inaugurated is very important. Traditionally, the Imam plays a very active role in unifying and rallying the clan during such times of social upheal, the famous " Cawada Jow Abgaal" comes to mind. But as they say, Mudulood Hiraab lacks but ultimately reconcile and I hope history repeats itself and the masses are rallied up in the same direction and for the same purpose. There's a good chance I will be in Xamar when the new Imam is inaugurated, so it will be a personal moment of joy

gr8 rov u summarize the whole mudulood crises in one paragraph bro..the whole hawiye clan lacks leadership we need leaders that can have effective role within the society man..that can take risk for their pple ... the pple pf the south are used for somalinimo while the rest of soomaaliya are taking care of their local business ..the hiraab brothers must sort their difference out via dialogue and reconciliation then hawiye then soomaalinimo

Abgaal is the biggest clan inside Somalia, but to the dismay majority are iether Shabaab or don't care enough to do otherwise.
Blame Sheik Shariif he squashed his base when he first took power
