Somali goverment looking for soccer trainers in Diaspora
War-torn Somalia is looking for personnel and player support from the diaspora to rebuild its shattered football infrastructure ahead of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, a top official said on Monday.
The Somali Football Federation (SFF) secretary Abdi Qani Said said the federation had appointed technical and administrative representatives in Europe and North America to work for them in the promotion of the sport in their respective countries.
"About ninety-five per cent of these representatives are former coaches and former national team players whose job is expected to yield positive results for Somalia's future international football appearances," he said in a statement.
Somalia is scheduled to play Ethiopia in the preliminary rounds of the 2014 World Cup in November, as well as competing in the annual CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Tanzania and the All Arab Games in Doha in December.
Abdi Gani said the federation would also seek to recruit young players from the diaspora to reinforce the national team which is currently in training in Mogadishu.
He said the appointed representatives would help in the recruitment and training of the players in their foreign bases.
According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the long civil strife in Somalia has forced about 14percent of its population to live outside the country, with most of the people having settled in Western Europe, North America and the Middle East.
Somalia have also been severely hit by the worst drought in 60 years which has affected ten million people in the Horn of Africa to leave their homes in search of food and water.

The 2 Legs (Home-Away) against Ethiopia are HUGE, if we win them we get a chance at competing for the final group stage, but chances are, with SA in the group we won't win it, but if they would televise it that would be great, I just want to see Somalia play against SA.

Exactly, bring up guys like Ayub Daud who would certainly benefit from playing internationally, the kid had stints with Juventus and I think he's still a part of that organization.WestLdnShawty wrote:Can the Somali diaspora play? Lets adopt and sponsor the Somali team. I was thinking about buying and investing in my own football club in Somalia, but if we get together we can adopt the national team and make it one of the best in Africa.
first of all, they should get collect the best Somali soccer teams in North America and Europe and than pick the best of the best from them, combine them with the best from Mogadishu and sorounding. and than tell the Somali community to fund and pay for their expenses and equipments for the next two years, training in North America and Europe, and playing with other clubs and teams.
we wouldn't win the world cup, but bet you they can qualify to go to Brazil for the world cup.

That's too soon, your expectations are way too high. Egypt, a country with a buttload of talent and arguably the best team in Africa (won the last 3 African cups) haven't made it to the world cup since 1990. You expect us, with no experienced players, no star players, and not enough coaching experience to somehow fix our situation in 3 years? We can't even qualify in the African championships with 16 spots, how the hell do you propose us making it to Brazil with only 5 spots available?!!IRONm@N wrote:Lets adopt and sponsor the Somali team. Its a pipe dream son, lets start out slow, and by slow I mean lets forgets the world cup even exists, these qualifying games should be more of letting our young guys getting international experience now.

You getta realize that there is a lot of corruption in Egypt soccer team. how else do they win every time in African championship but never even qualify for the world cup most of the time, forget about winning it?
What they do is, they usually hold the African cup in Egypt, and most of the referees and African teams or coaches are paid off, you don't know Egyptians. that is why in the last world cup, there was a huge fight between Egyptians and Algerians, to the point there was killing and looting. even Algerians asked for European referees.

That's beside the point I'm trying to make. Somalia has NEVER qualified to the African nations cup which hosts 16 African teams every 2 years. The world cup only hosts 5 African teams. Do the math. You cannot tell me its easier to qualify to the world cup.IRONm@N wrote:You getta realize that there is a lot of corruption in Egypt soccer team. how else do they win every time in African championship but never even qualify for the world cup most of the time, forget about winning it?

Like I said, we first have to prove ourselves in this continent, before we make outrageous statements. Be reasonable and patient. I'm not saying lose hope, but don't expect the world from these players, you are dramatically underestimating the level of competition in Africa.
