Somalis are tough only when in Somalia
So i was at this restaurant having a discussion with this Eritrean guy about politics in East Africa.. Pretty much the guy was saying how the war between Eritrea and Ethiopia is between two men who at one point were from the same political party and how a lot of Eritreans are losing their faith in Isaias Afewerki because he still has a rebel mentality rather than that of a president.. He was going on about the problems of Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea etc..
Then he goes oh have you met General Gabre? (this is the Ethiopian General who was in charge of the Ethiopian army in Somalia when Ethiopia invaded resulting in the death of thousands of Somalis) i said no why? The Eritrean guy goes "really? he comes here to this same restaurant every time, he even sits right here.. Comes to Kenya for meetings often. Next time i will introduce you to him.. I introduced him to a lot of Somalis.. This one somali friend of mine was very happy to meet him".
So i asked him.. "Does General Gabre walk around with guards?"...
Eritrean guy goes "No, he wears a suit with a little Ethiopian flag on it, but in Somalia he had thousands of guards around him all the time"..
But this doesnt shock me at all Since in Nairobi you will see every warlord walking by himself on the streets and even though there are millions of Somalis in Kenya no one dares touch them.. At some points you will even see rivals sitting in the same coffee shops..
So are Somalis brave only in Somalia?

Nairobi is like the capital for every warlord, why doesnt anybody touch them?
Anyways as he was telling me this i thought " only if Grandpa was around"..
Re: Somalis are tough only when in Somalia
I don't think its about brave or cowardice but people fear authority. In Somalia You can use your own muscle and there is no police, government, militiary, special forces, etc. that can stop You. Even in the most stable parts of Somalia today if a Guy gets jailed who Has a strong local clan they will storm the mail and get Him out.
In Kenya You have to respect the law and if even the biggest genocider who has murdered your entire family is right in front of You, You cannot touch Him or cause a rucous or else You will spend the night in the slammer.

Somalis do not walk the talk.
A case in point; Publically speaking we are the foot soldiers of Allah; we claim we worship him and are pious muslims. We narrate a surrah everytime we discuss even minor things; but our actions show otherwise.
We have become a nation of talkatives; big mouth nation.

Re: Somalis are tough only when in Somalia
Not all Somalis had a problem with Gabre, just a small minority in the capital. So unless Gabre was shaking hands in this particular restaurant with a minority of figures based in Mogadishu, then he should have no problems with Somalis and vice versa. I have no idea how you correlate a random Ethiopian military figure's friendly relationship with Somalis with cowardice. If my neighbor got beat up for talking out of line to some guy walking down the street, I would have no beef with the guy that beat him down. That's how I see this.

How sad of you to believe every propaganda you hear. The is no way in hell some raw meat eating, AIDS infected, poverty-ridden sad excuse for general would slap the king, the emperor the president of Somalia in villa Somalia nontheless. It was abviously fake story propagated by hawiye lead media who was pissed off that Abdullahi Yusuf/Somali parliment brought Ethiopia in their city. Abdullahi Yusuf's legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of reer Puntlander regardless of how many ways you try to defame himCoeus wrote:If the guy that Slapped the shit out of Abdullahi Yusuf is walking around freely in Kenya, then my response is:

Also, if General Gabre did to Puntlander what he did to reer Mogadisho he wouldn't be alive today. We would have hired a hit man if we can't take care of ourselves.

I beg to differ, wouldn't that lead to the ethiopian army invading Puntland?Amilla wrote:How sad of you to believe every propaganda you hear.
