I'd like to hear your philosphies on how a competent governing structure in Mogadishu would obtain revenues through the economy, rather than a reliance on international aid which Somalia was reliant upon through the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. (2/3 of the Somali government budget in the early 1980s was foreign aid)
I'm also interested in knowing how a lucrative oil position would be in relation to government revenues at the local, state, and federal levels. Each region seems to have a speciality in Somalia in to what it has the potential to producing (the South has the land the ability to grow food for export, there is livestock abundant every for export, there are other resources as well). But Puntland seems to be where the majority of oil will be.
Thanks for the comments

PL oil for PLers
only when the south shares their resources can PL share back..a win-win deal is the only way
but much still depends on the future of federalism in somalia!

FAH, you're Anti-Kacankii, with that in mind, whatever your views are, regarding Dawladii Siyaad Barre is 100% biased. Now, as for Somalia's Federal Government's structure on Economics, it's very simple.
We should create a Structure that resembles a lot like that of the United State of America. Taxes should be lowered for the common people, till jobs are created.
As for Oil, you mention "Puntland", while keeping silence of SSC, as if SSC is part of Puntland or Somaliland.
The Nugaaleed Oil block mainly concretes in Sool, which is part of SSC State. So, with a Federal Government, SSC will be playing a major role.

The Kacaan was unsustainable and relied upon aid rather than actual production. It's economic policies severly limited Somalia's potential and the deep centralization was the reason most of the country was dirt poor and has started from scratch. And I'm saying this as a guy who's grandfather was well known in Mogadishu and was very well off. But he was affected after the revolution like most business folk who started from scratch and made a good living for themselves by busting their tails off.Knight of Wisdom wrote:FAH, you're Anti-Kacankii, with that in mind, whatever your views are, regarding Dawladii Siyaad Barre is 100% biased. With that said, I'm not familiar with SSC, I don't follow Somali politics THAT closely but for sake of clan arguments let's just say Puntland's oil reserves Bari and Nugaal, entirely areas in undisputed territory.

With federalism, you have local, state, and the federal government in a decentralized system.
Puntland wants to be a federal state.

Horta Federalism cant work in Somalia but let us not even go there.
About Oil? every region in Somalia claim to have most Oil deposits in Somalia but again Nigeria and Angola are top oil producers and poor so Oil is curse.
Let us jst come back part of your question if you really wana understand how Somalia can be self sustaining economy then study the economies of Far East Asian tigers i e Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. if u live in Europe u can study The Irish system, it was workable until they copied the Anglo Saxon financial philosiphies. philosophies
