Post by NoAngst »

... due to climate change. By as much as 20% or more. And not in Somalia only, much of East Africa as well.

The reason some parts of Somalia flood is because the lack of rain the soil is baked by the sun the soil becomes like a rock or glass so the Rain will not go in the ground untill the soil softness which could take days or maybe weeks that's the biggest cause of flooding in Somalia and in Horn of Africa.

The more rainfall the better for Somalia and it's people :som:

If it is true then it is definitely a good news. It does not look like all of Somalia would receive the same amount of rain though.

Look at the middle three graphs which show the projected/predicted rainfall in Africa (you can also see the Arabian Peninsula btw) in the next 100 years due to climate change. The top set of graphs show the projected change in mean temperature (Somalia will experience ~1.5% increase). The bottom three graphs show the number of models making this prediction; in other words, they test the reliability of these predictions-the more corroborating studies, the better.

The first of the middle three graphs shows projected increase/decrease in mean annual temperature. The other two graphs breakdown that down further into December, January and February (DJF) and June, July and August (JJA). The legend on the right shows the projected percentage changes in colors. White means neutral/no-change. Orange to dark-orange means less rainfall where as light-grean to dark-green means more rainfall. Based on this, the whole of East Africa will experience 20% more rainfall.
