May Allah have mercy on MSB.

Speaking of afweyne, I was watching al jazeera earlier in the evening where they were discussing the situation in Somalia and the refugee camps in Kenya. They had that self imposed exile drunk Professor Samatar on and when asked what the causes for this drought were he layed part of the blame on Afweyne.

Well to be honest what happened AFTER January 1991 is not the fault of Maxamed Siyaad Barre. The dude was in Nigeria.

What happened from 1981 to 1991 is largely his fault though, especially the last three years. He should have stepped down in 1988.

Anyman that would lay the blame of the famine on the grave of a dead man need to have their brain tested, seriously.

Siyad barre best thing to happen to somalia. There was i quote i read where he said xamar had one road when he came and if he's taken out if power he will leave it the way he found it. He was not lying apparently. What people don't understand is that somalis are hard headed people as a whole. Only a strong leader can keep them together. Hence why every 10 miles in somalia has its own government

His argument was that an effective government would be able to deal with such droughts as the Somali people have been dealing with for a millenia. However, during his rule he did not allow for any space for the people to create a political platform without him thus we are in this situation now.

James Dhoe,

So the brutal atrocities Barre's army committed in Mudug and Nugaal you mean to tell us wasn't so brutal after all since Barre took his revenge on smashing wells around Galkayo... hooyada dhagada ka wase!

I know you trying to appease certain folk here like a little bitch but history can't be rewritten you son of btich.

Fact: The Barre dictatorship retaliated against the civilian population with mass massacre, prosecution, indefinite detention, and summary execution of dissidents. Siyad Barre's professional army were instructed to destroy the towns, poison the wells and rape the women. At the time Siyad Barre enjoyed the support of most Somali clans, and this campaign were carried out by army composed of all clans.

A historical account detailing every atrocity ever committed from 1978 to 2011 could fill several volumes, and I think that post is already a bit too long.
I have made that line less specific though since I suppose it could be interpreted that that's all he did.

I think for the most part that is right, but his opponents were not really interested in making space for everyone, most clans just wanted more space for their clan, preferably all of it.

If Somali clans were all satisfied being second or third fiddle in a national unity government, we wouldn't be in this situation.

the Prophet (saaws) said, "Any man whom Allah has given the authority of ruling some people and he does not look after them in an honest manner, will never feel even the smell of Paradise."

The man is rotting in hell.... why waste your time talking about the creature :|
