UN-backed Somalia national conference

Post by KingMJ »

Somalia prime minister Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has identified providing security and writing a new constitution as the key challenges facing his country's transitional government in the next 12 months.

"Improvement of security, the practice of good governance, attainment of reconciliation and the drafting of a national constitution are going to be the tasks that need special attention from the participants of this meeting," said Mr Ali on Monday at a UN-backed reconciliation summit taking place in the capital.

The three-day national reconciliation conference that begun Sunday has drawn Somali leaders including from the autonomous regions including Puntland who are looking for ways of finally solving the problems of the country that has been in conflict for the last 20 years after the central government collapsed.

The international community, mainly Somalia's neighbours, are also attending the summit that will also focus on winding up the transitional government that has been criticised for not meeting its objectives in its seven years of existence.

In that span, the transitional government has had two presidents and five prime ministers. Its mandate was to end last month but was extended by a year after talks in Kampala in June.

The meeting is being held at the African Union's Mission in Somalia's tightly-guarded Halane Compound base.

However the breakaway region of Somaliland and the fundamentalist militia group al-Shabaab are not represented.

The premier also said that his government was sparing no effort to address the plight of the people affected by the famine ravaging the Horn of Africa region, especially Somalia.

"We have instituted a national disaster management body, called for international support and set up mechanisms to help the needy,” he said.

You know it is not good to love anything too much or to hate anything too much.

Though SLand wants to breakaway now, sooner or later we will all realise that unity is in our best interest collectively.

Because they mentioned Somaliland in the UN backed nation conference saying how we were invited and we were named by name.

If this doesn't concern you then why post about it?

Those who see the world for what it is (and not a fairytale) know what the conference is about and understand what they are getting out of it. If you insist on living in lalaland, nobody is bothering you.

The political situation of Somalia is of no concern to us and we would not get anything out of being invited to any future conferences.

King-MJ, You would get a benefit out of it if your leaders weren't hell bent on a 20 year old fantasy. PL got a naval base, a free and practically unlimited armament from high-quality foreign military suppliers, a military base, multiple new police headquarters, a steady stream of development money, etc - all free of charge and all PL had to do was attend a few "meetings" and play its cards right. We've basically swept the rug from underneath Djibouti and become America and the UN's door to Somalia - we get all of the middle-man benefits that Djibouti was reaping (and they reaped many rewards) for 20 years.

I'd say it was definitely worth it for us to attend these "fake" meetings.

I just hope this conference serves its purpose and peace can finally be reached in that horrible grave yard. We are tired, the whole world is tired for having to look at that sad and horrible place.

The clown aka monkey of Garowe; you have just exposed the double standard of your kins. You are in it for all the wrong reasons which explains as to why these conference never worked.

Also, quit lying to yourself. The TFG is based in Muqdisho thus all the money goes there except for small percentage alocated for your mini state by Donor nations which isn't viable enough to cause an uproar. Did you forget Somaliland gets 45% of all money given to Somalia by the UK? yep we have our cake and still eat it.

There is an arms embargo on Somalia lest you forget hence no weapons of large scale into Somalia. Small arms do not count, those are in vast quantity in every corner.

Bring facts or shut the fuck up. Nobody has time for your tears.

Saracen, funded by Arab states and directed by Blackwater Worldwide (now known as Xe) sent arms and trainers to PL. All these weapons were registered with the TFG and shipped to Puntland.

According to the UN Security Council as of July 2011, PL is the most heavily armed entity in Somalia, including Al-Shabaab and Somaliland.

http://www.un.org/ga/search/view_doc.as ... tml&Lang=E
14. By the time of Saracen’s withdrawal from Mogadishu, its operations in Bosaaso were well
advanced: to establish a force of approximately 1,000-strong, equipped with 3 transport aircraft, 3
reconnaissance aircraft, 2 transport helicopters and 2 light helicopters. The maritime component of the
force would be equipped with 1 command and control vessel, 2 logistical support vessels and 3 rigidhulled
inflatable boats (RHIBs)
for rapid deployment and intervention. If fully implemented, these
plans would establish the best-equipped indigenous military force anywhere in Somalia
.

15. Just two days after the Saracen team redeployed to Bosaaso, on 31 October 2010, the MV
NOORA MOON 1 delivered approximately 500 MT of equipment and hardware, including
construction vehicles and also 85 pick-up trucks to the port of Bosaaso
. Between October 2010 and
February 2011, Saracen also chartered fifteen flights to Somalia from the UAE and Uganda, involving
two Antonov An-32 cargo aircraft operated by Ayk Avia, carrying supplies for the Saracen training
camp in Puntland.
19. Pathfinder and Focus Africa are South-African companies contracted by the Puntland Petroleum
and Mineral Agency (PPMA) to supervise the security aspects of the deployment in Puntland of
foreign companies involved in oil exploration
.
20. Salama Fikira is a private security company based in Kenya and with offices in Mauritius and
Puntland, Somalia. They are contracted by Africa Oil Corporation, registered in Canada, to “protect
Africa Oil Corp.’s activities in Puntland”
.
