New Somali generation unaware of their own history?
True story:
Three hundred Mogadishu University-educated students attended a book event. They were shown two historical pictures; the potraits of:
(1) the indian leader, Mahatma Gandhi and (2) Maxamed Cabdulle Xassan (the sayid)
Ninety percent of the participants recongised Mahatma Ghandi and only 1 individual recognised the potrait of Maxamed Cabdulle Xassan.
What a sad state of affairs...

Re: New Somali generation unaware of their own history?
I honestly dont think there should be any reason as to why they ought to know him. Despite the perversion of this mad mullah myth and building of statues for him in the middle of the city by the regime, folks still don't know about him. I am guessing different groups have different heroes. Despite the loud cries of painting the Mad Mullah as a national heroe, the fact remains that he is only held in high esteem by a specific sub-group. There rest either don't see him as a hero but a senseless and marauding murderer or are oblivious to the point of not even knowing his face.
Expecting someone in Mogadishu to know about the Mad Mullah, let alone see him as a national hero is the height of ignorance

What does Ceydid have to do with the topic? Are you saying they are similar? Both heros to some and enemy to others?Babygirl- wrote:What would you write about Caydiid? he was a hero?![]()
