BMW owners, get in!
5 series vs the M3; which one would you recommend and why? 2008 models.

I don't know your angle, what is most important to you: price, durability, status, what?
If price is not an option, 5 series without a doubt.

Re: BMW owners, get in!
Price isn't much of an issue, but I do have a cap that I'm allowed to not pass.
I'm more interested in reliability, engine performance, re-sale value, etc. 5 series is top of the line, but it might be too much of a car for me. I also like how the M3 offers the manual without a clutch option. Have you ever owned a BMW Cinque? This will be my first time owning a BMW. I'm also interested in Infiniti M45 or the Audi A8. Thanks sxb.

Re: BMW owners, get in!
No I haven't, but my father owns a BMW 3 series from 2005. It's a high performance and compact car, but I dislike the fact that everybody drives in 3 series nowadays. It's a common man's beemer, but perfect for a young guy.
Reliability, engine performance, you'll do good with whatever BMW. Re-sale value ahaan 3 series sucks compared to the other lines. If price is less of a factor, but resale value is important to you, 5 series is a clear winner sxb. Besides, 5 series is a chick magnet like you wouldn't believe.
As for myself, I'm a BMW guy and I will buy my own BMW inshallah.

Re: BMW owners, get in!
I too noticed the 3 series is more commonly driven than the 5 or even 7 series. Even more so here in Atlanta with its high concentration of blacks. They tend to prefer the 3 series a lot here, one of the reasons why I don't have it on my list. I currently own a Saab 9-3 about 6 years old, very reliable car and has served me well all this time. I did consider the Saab 9-7x (SUV), but learned that the body and engine were manufactured by GM, Saab only did the interior - scratched it off my list. Not a Mercedes type dude, BMW or Audi make more sense.
@ "chick magnet." My gf would probably send out a bounty on my head if she read this. Thanks, man. Your dad sounds like an OG. Most Somalis stick to either a Toyota or a Honda from what I've seen, even more so with the older crews. My late father was a Subaru fan, owned everything from Legacy to Imprezza and then finally a Forester in his last years.

Re: BMW owners, get in!
I drive the 3 Series 323i to be exact & my little bro droves the 545i. I personally like the 3 series because it's more sporty and packs a mean bunch. But every now & then I like the 5 series because it has more space. Generally, I find the 5 series as a luxury family sedan; but it handles great & there's nothing like it acceleration. It is a real joy to drive, especially how it hugs the curves. I think it all boils down to what kinda driver you are & your lifestyle.

Re: BMW owners, get in!
I drive a Renault Lagune bro. I noticed a BMW is a big deal in the US compared to West/North Europe, walahi BMW 3 series is just another car over here, nothing special. Interesting you mention Saab, reliability is its hallmark and the stereotype is that Saab owners are sophisticated people.Avicenna wrote:I too noticed the 3 series is more commonly driven than the 5 or even 7 series. 5 series is for men and m3 is for boys. You make the choice.

Re: BMW owners, get in!
If you're looking for performance, go for the M3; if you're looking for elegance, the 5 series will do. If you want both, try to save for an M5; maybe a '06-'07 model. If that ain't possible, go for the 535 model, 300hp will do you good
Btw as Cinque mentioned, you seemed to be doing well for yourself, congrats bro.

Re: BMW owners, get in!
CM- Thanks, brother. Much appreciated. I went to test drive a 2008 535i yesterday at a local BMW dealer, it had 26k miles on it, leather & all the bells-n-whistels. It was a solid car, but noticed paint drip on the driver door. The car looked like it was recently painted, but when I asked the dealer sales rep - he insisted it was the factory paint. That left me with some suspicion. Then I test drove a 2008 Infiniti M45; it felt like a piece of junk. Very light Japanese car, flimsily put together. A little slower to react during the accelaration. Japanese manufacturing pales in comparison to German luxury, it was weird having to experience it first hand. Maybe I should've driven the M45 first?
I've decided on the 5 series, inshallah.
bariis - thanks, sxb.
