why somaliland seeks secession....

Post by 2ndtoNone »

In early 1990s author Richard Dowden visited Borama where he met a man who insisted that he accepts his apology on behalf of Somalilanders for not taking their advice and not going through with the unification of somalia.

Richard Downden writes in his book AFRICA: Altered states, ordinary miracles

''I was sitting in teashop in small town of Borama when two men approached me. They asked if I was English and when I said yes, they bought me tea and demanded a conversation.
' you see' one of them said '' we want to say sorry- make apology for you'
''to me?''
''yes'' you are british, in 1960 we make terrible mistake we demanded unity with Somalia in the south the british warnd us but we didnot listen, you see we had justice, law and fairplay and in the south they had the Italians, spaghetti and mafia, that made the southerners terrible people, they are cheaters and you know some of them are Not even Somalis at all. They are Africans.'' .... the other guys intrupts '' that is why my friend we choose never to be part of a banana republic ever again.''
