I Noticed Somalis Don't Have Decorum

Post by Murax »

When in public events.

Couple of days I was at this one muxaadaro and this islaan got up to give a plea to the sheikh complaining that too many girls in this city are unmarried and what is gonna be done about it. She said infront of everybody "Gabdaha qooq baa haayo"

Couple of weeks ago I was another one and this guy got up to ask a question. He asked a question on gabdhaha la gudaayo but the way He asked the questions wasn't what You'd expect in a Religious setting. He added way too many graphic details, and You could see the face of the poor shiikh just change.

On top of that way too much laughing, qeylo, emotion, etc. Really You can tell Somalis were really reer baadiye not too long ago

It's true that Wallahi.I don't think they mean to be rude that's just their way
I remember reading somewhere that that in the time of the Prophet (SAW)
The medani Arabs used to get the Badawi Arabs to ask the Rasuul (SAW) certain questions that they deemed too embarassing to ask
This must be the way of all country folk

Qooq is perhaps the best somali word ever invented.

My experience of somali muxaadaro; the sheikhs are mainly tribal shits and pathelogical liars. The attendees are usually losers.

Exactly. Really Somalis You can tell waxay ahayeen camel herders for the most part. Just like the bedouins in the time of the Rasuul SAW bey u dhaqman. They don't care how many people are there, or what the setting is they'll say exactly what they wanna say, how they wanna say it. I go to a mixed masaajid that has a lot of Somalis and the biggest complaint people have are against Soomalida. Waxaa la yiraahda Somalis are too loud and are responsible for too much buuq. Same thing at the cafes the staff always complain Somalis are too loud

This fresh Somali guy in my endz a few years back, said to me. "waryaa kaley daaskan ii raac gabadha heysa sigaar iga iibin weydaye"

It turns out the woman refused to serve him 'cos he threw the money at her
So I asked him why did you throw the money at the woman
His reply was "hadaa wuxu ma bilaash baa".The fact that he throwing the money at the woman was wrong didn't even enter his head

It's what happens when you've never had a civilisation. Only in civilisations can you develop ettiquette, manners and other refinements.

You only have to look at our mosques to see what I mean. We are in the middle of salah and the late-comers start loud conversations in the hallway and by the shoe-racks distracting people who are praying. And only in the somali mosques do you hear phones going off constantly in salah. In every other mosque the people have the decency to switch it off before entering the masjid. And this is the house of ALLAH SWT.

its not that we don't have a polite way of speaking in public, its just that the Somali language is confrontational, aggressive and blunt for the most part; waa luuqadeena just like its people

Somali language is not confrontational. Everybody exhibits how he/she was raised. I don't understand why being loud , rude and disrespecting rules and common decency proofs? Is there a Somali word for tact? It seems that that word is not in our vocabulary!

There are more than 10+ words for argue/argument but no proper word for compromise.
