Target: Leader of the Lord's Resistance Army Joseph Kony has been wanted since 2005 when he was charged with crimes against humanity

President Barack Obama said Friday he's dispatching roughly 100 U.S. troops to central Africa to help battle the Lord's Resistance Army, which the administration accuses of a campaign of murder, rape and kidnapping children that spans two decades.

In a letter to Congress, Obama said the troops will act as advisers in efforts to hunt down rebel leader Joseph Kony but will not engage in combat except in self-defence.

Pentagon officials said the bulk of the U.S. contingent will be special operations troops, who will provide security and combat training to African units.

I was just about to post this

Anyway, a U.S. president sending troops to capture an African warlord? How can this go wrong?

I'm still shocked at how Ugandan peackeepers are in Somalia when there's been a brutal and savage (even by Somali standards) civil war raging in Uganda for decades. The LRA make Shabaab look like the Salvation Army.

Obama's doing whatever it takes to distract people from the economy at this point. He thought the Osama thing was definitely going to get him reelected, but this is just retarded.

Although, I kind of feel like this is a test run for a possible American intervention in Somalia when you think about it. The LRA isn't what it used to be, especially since South Sudan got its independence so why send U.S. troops now?
