I panic and Turtle When Speaking In Public

Post by caburiye1 »

Guys,

I have a problem. Whenever I am speaking in a crowd especially when am asking questions in meeting where there are people of authority, I panic and turtle in my speech. My heart comes to my throat. I get possessed by fear and emotions and I can't say all the words. I have to breath heavily while I am speaking.

What Can I do to Overcome it.

its mind over matter bro, talking to a large crowd is really no different than talking to each person individually, just remind yourself of that.

Think of what you want to say first.
Have a drink at hand
Grasp on something
If you are reading a paper put it somewhere because if you hold it the shaking is visible and that makes u panic even more
Pick out someone you think looks friendly and talk at them
Practice at home what you think a confidant speaker should sound like and look out for your body language because if you look confident you will feel confident. Those are my tips, hope they help

Like anything else practice, do as much public speaking as possible. At the start it will be hard but you get over it maybe start with small audiences and work your way up. Try a public speaking seminars but these are more of a long term solution.

Good luck.

Do you also "turtle" Image when you write?

You may be suffering from anxiety, shyness disorder. I get that every now and then and it's mainly psychological issue. If it's severe that it puts your social/"love"/work relationships in jeopardy then you might need to see a doctor, a specialist one, don't know what they call them.

If it's just a minor issue then there are lots of self-help books (though they are full of crap most of the time) that address such issues or you might Google/Youtube search "stage fright, anxiety disorder" and you might find some helpful information that doesn't cost you a cent.

You need confidence, the main ingredient to get you an A performance in where ever you are. When speaking to people, do you know the subject matter up&down, back&forth, if you do then you shouldn't worry. the second advice, is practice with a mirror or an audience (most likely home w/relatives). You have to be passionate about the topic and subject at hand, whether it is a business matter or in a general meetings, plus feed off the energy of the audience look for confirmations and agreements, plow through the damn thang

I think you might have a mild case of Social Anxiety. Does it bother you when you're chatting with a group of guys or just when you're doing public speaking? Because in the latter case its a pretty normal reaction from most people.
