Are we on a collision course between west/Islam?

Post by waryaa »

Sharia Law in Libya
Karzia sides with Pakistan over US
Iraq is heavily influenced by Iran
Tunisia elected pro-sharia party
Egypt is about to elect Ikhwan Muslimin
Shjababs are waving religous flag

Concrete western influence is hard to sell in this part of the world these days while Anti-Islam leaders are being elected in western world. Even one of US presidential candidates openly said he won't have any Muslims in his cabinet (I don't think the law allows such discrimination).

Libyan leader seeks to calm West on Sharia fears (they are going to ban interest too)
National Transitional Council leader Mustafa Abdul-Jalil said Sunday that Islamic Sharia law would be the main source of legislation, that laws contradicting its tenets would be nullified, and that polygamy would be legalized.

Karzai: Afghan backs Pakistan if US attacks it
"If fighting starts between Pakistan and the U.S., we are beside Pakistan," Karzai said is an interview with private Pakistani television station GEO that aired Saturday. "If Pakistan is attacked and the people of Pakistan need Afghanistan's help, Afghanistan will be there with you."

Look bro the fact is the West cares about interest and not religion. People can convince themselves its otherwise till their face gets blue but the facts speak for themselves. Saddam was secular. Gaddafi was secular. Assad who they oppose is secular. Without comment on their relations with their people( sometimes undoubtedly bad) most of their bad relations with the West were about geopolitics than religion. These guys that are getting elected as much as they try to scare people otherwise, are not anti Western. Ghannouchi of Tunisia would not make reactionary politics like other leaders because that would kill him in Tunisia. The Ikhwan in Egypt have also wisened up to the game and if/when they do get elected you are dreaming if you think they'll be anti Western. Same with all the other popular examples.

The West will let you practice your religion however you see fit if you do not act as a major block towards their interests/relations, and you will see this happen here. The Turkish AKP is an Islamist party however its clearly not anti Western. These examples will be much closer to them than the Taliban and our own alShabaab.

Jeidi, in old days yes, west meant business. I was in Switzerland when they announced cutting minarets off mosques and the party that won elections @ the time had this as their slogan. That's Switzerland which is known for its neutrality. The guy who massacred kids in Norway had deep hatred toward Muslims. Again, that's Norway!

Read Samue; Huntingtons Clash of Civilizations
The Clash of Civilizations is a theory, proposed by political scientist Samuel P. Huntington, that people's cultural and religious identities will be the primary source of conflict in the post-Cold War world.
