I am not talking about the really old ones but the able older men. I worked with old gaalo folks that barely could function but still work hard and I started thinking about it, because every time I go the Somali areas, I see older guys in the same age group just having fadhi ku dirir over shah.

If they are 50 something that means they came to qurbaha in their early 40's with no proper qualifications or modern day work experience, hence their fadhi ku dirir.

Actually, those who don't work are the ones who came to the diaspora at older age. I have seen Somali men who stopped the SSI due to hassle they go through from SSA (Social Security Administration), constant requirement to proof their income, the number of people in their household, and the annual meetings they go through.

Many have even gone back home after they did not like their daily need to have someone drive them to work. As many of you know, the public transportation in the USA is very bad, and many older Somali men need someone to take them to different place they need daily. They did not like that and decided to head back to Somalia and in the rest of East Africa.
