Hundreds of Ethiopian troops enter Galgaduud
Hundreds of Ethiopian troops crossed into Balanbale and Garjir areas of Galgaduud region in central Somalia on Monday on a mission to find fighters from the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) separatist group, according to officials and local residents who spoke to Somalia Report.
“They arrived in Balanbale on Monday 1:00pm local time and then returned across the border that night. Then they came back on Tuesday morning and entered the areas of Balanbale and Garjir. I don’t know if they are planning to go back to their border tonight,“ said Shiekh Isma’il Macalin Mussa, an official of the pro-government Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamaa (ASWJ) in Galgadud.
“More than 200 hundreds soldiers, eight Ural trucks, and two new police cars arrived and the soldiers were searching for ONLF members because on Monday a number of ONLF members clashed with residents in Galgaduud region and one person died. We met with them and they told us that they are only looking for ONLF members and then they will back to border,” he added.
Residents told Somalia Report that Ethiopian troops searched a number of houses in small villages near the border.
"They investigated our houses. At first we were shocked to see Ethiopians in our homes, but then the ASWJ officers told us that they are looking for only ONLF Members,“ Abdi Jamal, said a resident in Garjir resident.
Residents of Guricel also confirmed seeing the foreign troops.
"We have seen the troops walking in the streets and conducting operations. The started searching for ONLF members immediately after they arrived here,“ Gafe Barre, a Guricel resident, told Somalia Report.
Abdirahman Isse, a well-known local shiekh, told Somalia Report that the Ethiopian officers spoke to the residents of Guricel and informed that they came to observe the situation of the town.
“We welcome the troops to come and carry out operation to find fighters hiding themselves in the villages,“ said Abdirahman.
Ethiopian government has not commented on the incursion into neighboring Somalia.
The ONLF is a separatist group fighting the Ethiopian government in their bid to establish the Ogaden region between eastern Ethiopia and western Somalia as an independent state.

Cos ONLF only fight for rights for the Ogadens and not other Somalis who live in the region. Infact, they fight and ransack other Somali towns in those regions.UlteriorMotive wrote:horta why are galgaduud residents and ONLF clashing?

Onlf does not partake in clan fueds,it just so happens that somalis consider every og with a rifle a member of Onlf.It is desrespectful to acuse the Onlf which has an standing army of fighting half naked thirsty camel herders.

ONLF are a sad case, they are filthy gypsies that move around bushes month by month. They are losers that have no goal, they attack opposite clans whenever they feel hungry or poor. But sadly they fail to even win their own crime. Yesterday they attacked a village near Balanbale town, they got beaten. What I find funny is that ONLF supporters all they do is create ruwaayado (play acting in theatre) and dance like a ape. f-king gypsies

Sax sxb. They cannot sustain any hostilities aganst the Ethiopian army. All they do is hit and run. When they are low on food and water, they ransack innocent tribes' villages. The administration of the Somali Region is an Ogaden and with the help of Liyuu police, he does not investigate or help other clans towns, when they get robbed of their camels, goats and their livelihood by ONLF. All ONLF know is to attact other Somalis.XimanJaale wrote:ONLF are a sad case, they are filthy gypsies that move around bushes month by month. The administration is a failure. ONLF is a failure.

Re: Hundreds of Ethiopian troops enter Galgaduud
ONLF is not like any Somali tribal militia, it is more than that. Internationally and locally it has good reputations. It's a force that Somali people with dignity are being proud of unlike what you pay outs say here. It's a freedom movement, and political organization with vision. It lasted longer than any movements in history of Somalis. Even more than Dervish movement. There is NO evidence of ONLF taking part cat-fightings among Somalis. Therefore, stamens like ONLF knows only how to attack other Somalis is false just as that of the fake online personality of Xiiman Jiiqe. But if Ethios keep going in and from Ogaden borders ONLF has every right to go after the pay outs and their masters and unblock the trade across the border.
In other words, it is time ONLF to focus not only at west of Awash, but also east of Godey and Jigjiga. It would be great had they started operating in Somalia just to show how ONLF is mightier than the raw meat eaters in Somali villages across the border.
Yeah time to hunt the pay outs in Somalia.
