Last week Dahir Aweys insulted 3 tribes (Abgaal, Majerteen and Ogaden). Today Abu Mansuur complains about one certain tribe infront of thousands of people in Baydhabo.

He has told his own people of Bay and Bakool to wake up, and said that they are oppressed and controlled by Beesha Mareexaan for many years, he has told them that Baydhabo is nicknamed the city of Murder, because of Beesha Mareexaan. He also said that the people of Bay and Bakool are overpowered by Beesha Daarood and Hawiye.

Al-Shabaab has divided into 4 clans.

Hawiye
Mareexaan
Ogadeen
Raxanweyn

Qabil runs deep in the Somali blood. Thank God I stood my grounds till 2006 to now. I will continue to stand with my clan when it comes to Politics.

I do not support al shabaab but I agree that the mareexan are the least reliable and least coherent group in all Somali tribal politics , closely followed by the Ogaden

And you guys don't see the pattern?

Shabab is feeling squeezed more than ever financially and militarily. They are also fighting on several fronts and find it harder to recruit due to unpopularity...

.....but out of nowhere all the main shabab leaders start tribal rants? Considering the above and knowing their history and their expert skill at manipulating the clan system I wouldn't take their 'tribal bashing' at face value.

The way I see it, shabab badly need new fighters and more importantly motivated volunteer fighters because conscripts do not fight as well. They have worked out the importance of Somali kinship and the call to arms. Each top leader makes a plea for support from his clan that basically he is fighting for them ...that he's their man...blah blah blah.....and voila...new recruits!

The clans they are scapegoating they more or less have not had on board in the first place and are expendable for the bigger aim of uniting rahanweyn, ceyr etc to the cause.
