Adobe Drops Flash for Mobile Devices

Post by Alphanumeric »

This is pretty massive news, if you consider the number of people who have been hating on Apple products because of their constant lack of Flash support for web browsers. So what does this mean? Adobe and Apple have been butting heads because of Flash on mobile devices (some courtroom drama about licensing and whatnot) for some years now. Adobe has finally given up, and will no longer develop Flash for mobile devices. Thus, the playing field has been heavily skewed. The droves who have ran toward Android (and other) devices simply for their Flash support, will no longer have this advantage over IOS users. HTML5 will likely be the common ground for web browsers. This will probably all take affect by 2013ish.
But in a blog post explaining the decision, Mike Chambers, principal product manager for developer relations at Adobe, admitted that Apple's decision not to support Flash Player on iOS was one of the major factors in its demise.
Interesting.

If you like. But if you are planning on getting a phone, it all depends on what you're looking for. All this means is, don't base your judgments on Flash support.

How about the lack of external memory and everything being built in? The lack of bluetooth sharing? The lack of simply copying and pasting files such as music, photos, videos and so on? How about that stupid rule that one iphone for one computer where you get that 'erase and sync' message in the event you attempt to get music from a different computer? If you say there is a way to maneuver that and there is, then what about that newbies that haven't discovered that alternative? Iphone is for groupies bro. No offense intended of course. 8-)

None taken. But this isn't a pro-Apple thread. Simply sharing the info that Flash is no longer a point of argument.

Hey, completely understandable. Their level of proprietary hardware and software is upsetting. Imo, it's sad to see Adobe kowtow to Apple's demands. It's a loss for everyone.

Actually a gain for apple. I don't know about adobe. Apple fans are easily seduced and this is one of those cases where they make a lot of fuss about this if it the promise is carried out by adobe.

I say loss because removal of competition like this only hurts the further development of technologies. Some would say Flash is outdated, but I don't know. We all lose, us being consumers, because now a form of choice has been removed. Sucks. Apple fans would be and are constantly pleased by whatever they comes out. But hey, like I say, whatever you enjoy is what you enjoy. No sense in forcing your opinion on others.
