'I feel in my heart I'm a success': Warehouse worker retires from job... at the age of 102

By Daily Mail Reporter

14th November 2011

At 102 years old, Max Fabian is finally stepping down from the family company he has worked at for more than half a century.

At the end of the month, the 'jack-of-all-trades' will retire from his job at electrical wire and cable company A-Z Industries Inc where his role included warehouse inspections and collecting the mail.

Five days a week, Mr Fabian drives to work in Northbrook, Illinois.
He told Triblocal.com: 'I feel in my heart I am really a success. It’s the best thing I could know that I was happy all these years.'
Even in his tenth decade, the centurion takes regular exercise, going to the gym and playing racquetball.
Mr Fabian has worked for the Anixter family for four generations. He first joined the firm in the 1930s when he was a detective with the Chicago Police. Jules Anixter offered him a job for the family acting as a security guard and chauffeur.

Mr Fabian worked as an administrative assistant and manager of warehouse traffic and security at the company until it was bought over in 1986.

Two years later, a son of his original employer Jim Anixter co-founded wire and cable distributor A-Z Industries and brought Mr Fabian with him.

It isn't financial reasons that keep the 102-year-old going to work every day but for the love of the company and his colleagues.

Mr Anixter, calls Mr Fabian his 'step-grandfather', adding: 'He’s doing the right thing, but I’m going to be sad. I’m going to miss him coming here every day.'
