Saudi women may be forced to cover up 'tempting' eyes

Saudi women with sexy or "tempting" eyes may be forced to cover them up, according to a spokesperson for the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, the news site Bikyamasr reports.

Bikyamasr quotes a spokesman of the Ha'eal district, Sheikh Motlab al-Nabet, as saying the group has the right to order women whose eyes seem "tempting" to shield them immediately.

The CPVPV was set up in 1940 to make sure that Islamic laws are not broken in public, Bikyamasr notes. It can force women to wear a loose black dress and to cover their hair and, occasionally, their face. Punishment for violators can range from fines to public lashings.

The announcement follows a report in the Saudi newspaper al-Watan that a Saudi man was hospitalized after fighting with a member of the committee that had ordered his wife to cover her eyes.

What next?

Actually this necessarily might not be a bad idea. It reduces fitna.

Saudi guys are freaks and if you lived there you'd understand, they'd still hit on you, even if you are covered from head to toe

If they believe it takes all this to keep their men under control and their women safe, it begs the question what kind of men does Saudi Arabia have? And really shouldn't they be addressing that root concern instead of just covering up the problem with quick fix bandages?

What I never understood is this, bear with me.

If supposedly a woman's sexy eyes can cause fitnah, shouldn't the opposite scenario also be a matter of concern? A man with a good set of eyes (no homo) who can cause fitnah among the womenfolk according to the same logic? If you don't agree with the comparison, isn't it fair to conclude that women are being treated unfairly on this issue?

Funny thing is, Arab men even use kohl to accentuate their eyes to make them look more powerful.

Whats next? Will the women stop existing coz their men are sick?

Maybe it is time they considered mandatory shots of estrogen.
