Very often recently, I have been hearing that Somali women in the diaspora are far more intelligent, culturally aware and more ambitious than the men who are still stuck on pointless discussions and fewer are in skilled employment/education compared to the women. Discuss.

That is very true. The amount of female graduates eclipses that of our men. It is going to be very weird when they have to settle for someone with a lower earnings power.

Women tend to do better than their men when it comes to ethnic minorities in the west. i.e. African Americans, Latino's

Somali's seem to follow this pattern. Where women are more likely to get a college education and career than their male counterparts.

Now, the question is why?

Women tend to do better across the board. Its not exclusive to Somalis. Even white girls out-perform white boys in school.

I don't think the gap is that high, I believe it’s possible there are more Somali female graduates. However in the best universities and degrees I think there are more Somali males still, but people just notice more females in and around universities which is why they say this.

Beenaale...yes, thats exactly what I'm doing ...all jokes aside though...as you and Shirib have stated, there is a huge gender gap. Do you think women tend to succeed more because they are constantly told they have the odds stacked against them? Is it because women were controlled/less mothered at home? I think ciil is the answer

King MJ...Ive toured many top class universities and do not see this higher ratio of Somali men to women you see.

Gedo; yes I do believe this imbalance between genders leads to women marrying outside their ethnicity.

The overall reason for this could be that parents place more importance on a girl to spend her time at more more, not go out more and study while nobody bats an eyelid at the boys leaving the house, staying out too long and hanging around undesirable folks.

Wallahi accident...nail on head!! Boys 'get away with murder'....but this freedom makes them fail, falling into drugs etc...and ego's too big to learn and big enough to join a gang. I'm lucky....my whole family got whooped for coming home late and every one of us went to uni...we had nothing better to do

Its just nature, females don't get distracted so they stick to the education and being free does not mean you end up a loser in fact its those that feel restricted who become rebels.

You're 100 percent right. The consequences of this are already showing. I know a number of women who ended up marrying Muslims from other countries cause their credentials far exceed that of their Somali male counterparts. Anyone who works in education or is familiar with universities in Canada( thats all I can speak on) can tell you there's a gender gap in achievement and its only increasing. Probably boils down to those parenting differences.

Not to mention the biggest screwups are almost all uniformly boys all across the board

What accident said is true + the fact that girls are just more motivated than boys to study. The biggest screwups in any community are boys.

I do wonder how the world will look like in 20-25 years time cos at the moment girls are consistently out-performing boys at both school level and university level. Though, I bet those 60 year old douche-bags who are running shit now will still find a way to keep women down.

In that specific instance I still don't think the gap is that big to say they're far more intelligent. More ambitious yes, and more at Uni yes I agree. But of the most successful and most intelligent Somalis in the entire Somali population I think Somali males edge it.

But yh there are by far more male screw ups and it probably has to do with gender freedom as you said.

In general Women have higher IQ than men therefore always Women are smarter than Man. and Somalia women iam sure that if somalis let womens to lead them then Somalia will become better place
