Brazil legend Socrates dies

Post by ToughGong »

Former Brazil captain Socrates has died at the age of 57.

He had been in a critical condition with an intestinal infection since being admitted to intensive care on Friday at a hospital in Sao Paulo.

Socrates, who was widely regarded as one of the greatest ever midfielders, was moved onto a life support machine on Saturday.

They reckon he used to smoke 40 cigarettes a day during the 1982 world cup
You'd never think that from the way he plays

Thats why cigartte smoking is bad for you. he was still young 57 probably its smoking whichs coused hes early aakhiro . 1980s back in the days people of mogadishu use to say Socrates was a Practising medical Doctor. the time he was not playing football he was working a hospital. i dont if thats true or not. but the man was great footballer. i grew up this names ZICO, falcoa. socrates. edder. junior. i was about 7 in 1982 world cup. and my uncel had VHS and tv set. not in many people in mogadishu had VHS player in those days. we use to watch Recorded games of 82 world cup

One of so many Brazil legends that I never had the chance to watch. I saw him on T.V very recently and he was asked who is the greatest Pele or Maradona to which he replied 180 million Brazilians think Maradona is not even good enough to lace Pele's boots.

This dude was a qualified Doctor. Fair play to him.

I never watched him play as I wasn't even born during his heyday. Sometimes I feel I was born in the wrong era lol.

i was here 1980s. that era was not that speciall. we did not have internet. no mobile phone. mogadishu was peacefull, mogadishu had big cinemas. one called shaleemo macalin jaamac. every monday and talaado they showed recorded game of SERIA A. maradona of Napoli and Milan van basten and rud gullet riykaard was big those days. i remember sitting in line 5.30 pm before the sun sets down in front of shaleemo macalin jaamac which was located infront of national theater.

i was fan of NAPOLI. i even remember when they won seria A 1987 i think.

Legendary footballer , doctor, and even a political activist. Too young to have seen him play, but the videos are incredible. Looks like Brazil has slowly lost its flair ever since.
