I believe if the situation was changed and shabaab were in somaliland that within a month they would have been defeated with no foreign interference. It's just the south was fucked up to start with so it hard for them to unite and stand up against these people. But mostly waa dhiig la'aan. may allah help them and all of us.

fighters with un-parallel commitment. its also not surprising majority
of their foes rely heavily on foreign support which does them no good.i believe

Because as long as a good number of somalis do not approve of their tribal past or current political alignement they will continue to support al shabaab , which whether we agree or not gives them an untribalistic platform . The resaon it doesn't get any traction in Somaliland is solely due to the unity the Isaaq clan has decided to maintain , plain and simple . The only way al shabaab could lose is if Hawiye was a strong united block , daarod the same etc,ect.
Al shabaab feeds on disunity , corruption , insecurity , injustice , plain and simple ! If you manage /want to build something it has got to be BIG like the Isaaq , not on a small subclan level , coz they'll still eat you up
