Hopefully Turks will open schools like this in Somalia

Post by union »

This Turkish school in Kenya is among the best in the country.
Since Somalia is the most ignorant country in the continent by far, hopefully the Turks will open a "light academy" there too.

(Ebru News/Kenya) The Light Academy, a Turkish school, has become a model school in Kenya due to its success stories in education. Light Academy which opened only ten years ago outperformed the American and British schools dating back to a hundred years and has become the second best school in the country.

The Light Academy, launched in 1998, now has 5 centers delivering educational services for pre-school, primary school and high school levels across the country.

The school is in demand by an enormous number of applicants because of its successful performances in the past ten years.

There are more than 500 private schools in Kenya. Among them are American, British and French schools which were established 50 years ago. Light Academy, in it's ten years of existence, is the second best school in Kenya.

Many top level bureaucrats visit the school to get an idea about the thinking behind it's success and decide to send their children to the Turkish school where volunteering teachers from Turkiye work devotedly.

Turkish schools are established on a university like campus with modern facilities such as restaurants, dorms and libraries.

Just because Somalias been ravished by anarchy and civil-war it does not make Somalis ignorant or backward when it comes to education, if anything they deserved to be praised. Today we have thousands of Somali students all over the world studying in India,Pakistan,Malaysia,China,Turkey,Sudan etc and some of them go on to becoming doctors and engineers who are either working in western countries or working for western companies/NGOs. And they have all received their elementary and secondary education in a war-torn country.

:som:  Indeed a very special type of people.

Turkish high school to open in Mogadishu

12 October 2011 / TODAY'S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
A Turkish high school will be opened in Mogadishu in the next month, proof that Turkey is continuing to make good on its promise to invest in Somalia's infrastructure, according to an Anatolia news agency report.
Bilal Çelik, chairman of Turkish charity the Nil Organization, said on Wednesday that an admission exam had been devised and more than 1,000 prospective students have applied to the school.

Çelik, adding that 120 students would be boarders, said they would give textbooks to Somali students free of charge.

Math, physics, chemistry and computer lessons will be taught in English, social studies lessons will be taught in Somali and religion lessons will be in Arabic. The students will also have Turkish language lessons 11 hours per week.

A total of nine Turkish teachers will work at the school, Çelik said.

Turkey has been a leader in the international community for its impressive and ongoing aid to Somalia, where approximately half of its population has yet to receive aid. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Mogadishu and several refugee camps in Somalia, pledging more aid in cash and infrastructure.

I was feeling it until the "religious lessons" part
We don't need any more madrassas. We probably have per capita the most in Africa.
I will report this school to the Turkish Ataturk society for being in violation of Turkish secular laws
