Housemate on Brazilian version of Big Brother was 'raped on live TV' after alcohol-fueled party

A housemate on Brazil's version of Big Brother has been raped live on TV, it has been alleged.

Police today confirmed they had begun an investigation and carried out a search of the studios in Rio de Janeiro, where the popular reality show is being filmed.

Viewers were shocked in the early hours of Sunday to watch contestant Daniel Echaniz 31, apparently force himself on 23-year-old student Monique Amin, who had passed out drunk after a boozy party.

I don't get it, they have 24/7 camera crews around the house with access to every room. Were they watching in as well as the incident occured? I mean the viewers knew what was happening, and their watching thru the cameras.

First, on shows like this people basically sign their lives away. MTV's Real World has a bullshit clause that's along the lines of, "If you agree to be on this show and are subsequently molested, raped, or get HIV or somethin', it ain't our fault 'cus you signed this shit, bitch." I imagine a show like Big Brother would have some hella warped contract to cover themselves too.

Second, even if she was passed out drunk, that dude still shouldn't have raped her. WHAT THE HELL

Third, I don't understand why people always blame the victim when there's a rape. "She was drunk. She got in to bed with him. She faked it." I'm sorry, but if a woman claims that she has been raped, people should believe her. Jesus, this is why women don't report rapes, because people shame them rather the rapist.

My view on rape is pretty harsh. Others may know this. But hey, if you get drunk with a dude who happens to sleep in the same bed as you, don't come running when shit happens.

oh and what about the person she is accusing of rape? are they not entitled to a presumption of innocence?

To me, this situation is a grey area. I'm less inclined to feel sorry for women who put themselves in situations(getting passed out drunk in a houseparty, leading dudes on etc) where the likelihood of them getting 'raped' is high.
