The constant bickering is probably because they don't actually communicate. The grand gesture is a sad one. An attempt to sweep the pink elephant under the rug. There's an issue between them that they need to address and get over. The fact that she so easily got over it though, isn't a good look. People are cheap.

That's what separates the men from the boys I guess. A man's man won't bicker with his wife, he'll cease-fire the situation with emotion. Boys can't tell that females react differently from males in a argument. We argue with facts, they argue with emotion, using the latter won't work hence you have to play by her rules and ultimately win if you want things to go your way.
