I don't know, you can sometimes get away for making fun of the slant eyes. Only when you insult the protected races (Jews and Blacks) will you be run out of your job.

On the real tho, ESPN is too global and reputable for any sports anchor/columnist to knowingly write or say something like that intentionally while still caring about keeping their job...it's not some obscure network/website, it's actually arguably the #1 source of sports news, so it has to be unintentional and intended as a figure of speech without them realizing the double meaning. Kinda like saying someone's greedy and them happening to be Jewish; the comment doesn't make it newsworthy, the background of who they're directing it at does, even if they're entirely oblivious to it at that moment.

The anonymous columnist who wrote the article should've learned from the interview tho, he deserves disciplinary action whether it was due to maliciousness or incompetence since the same controversial phrase was used just 2 days earlier.

the NBA is making money of his popularity, but he is only averaging 28 points and has high turn over. When Lebron or Kobe average 35 point every night nobody will thing big deal of it, because they are black and suppose to be good at basketball,.
