There are two aswl,the central regions one which is divided among clan lines and too weak nowadays,they are de-facto aswl since they integrated into their respective clans.the other aswl in xamar is strong and have succeeded much in defeating alqaeda .it is like the sunni-awaking in iraq.

ASWJ in CS is the reason why Alshabaab never advanced to the north, to simply excuse them as weak and unorganized does a great disservice to their accomplishment, even with all their internal feuds. I don't like sufis but u gotta give them their credit.

There are many individuals & groups that claim to represent ASWJ. From the groups fighting in Gedo, Hiiraan, Cabudwaaq & Dhuusomareeb & other regions. Even Abdi Shukri who is alleged to have 2000 militias in Hobyo claims to be ASWJ. But politically, ASWJ has always had one representative  that has been accepted by the Somali authorities & International Community. Abdulqadir Macalin Nuur led ASWJ during the Mogadishu consultive Talks in 2011.



& couldn't lead them in Garowe 1 because of a family wedding in Dubai. But he did sign the Garowe II declarations.

He was in Jabuti last week in the International Contact Group Meeting on Somalia that was the prelude to the London Conference. He will be leading ASWJ in the London conference.

I don't know anything about him so I cannot speak of him but it has been well understand he is a rubber stamp by Mahiga when the ASWJ stamp is needed in the pointless UNPOS communique.

The people that give ASWJ name are well known by neighboring states and political actors.It is the people who meet with AMiSOM, neighboring states, IGAD, and Western military officials.
