Would All This Be Possible Without Alshabaab?

Post by Advo »

While pirates are a small headache, I believe all these nations pledging help and ish was made possible by the alshabaab threat, something that puts fear in the heart.

Advo,

I was just wondering the same thing.

Watch this clip from bbc news in Xamar. The reporter says a few years ago seeing random gunmen was caadi. Now because of the fear of shabab...no one is allowed to carry firearms apart from govt troops.

Shabab forced Somalis to really wake up.

But you have to bear in mind that people in Xamar had already had enough before shabab. They got fed up and kicked out the warlords in 2006 before ethiopia brought them back again as 'government ministers'.

I dont agree.. The al'shabaab threat has been around for many years now.. Why do something now?

Its a mixture of things, such as oil, Somalia's strategic position and Turkey/Iran's growing influence/involvement in Somalia ..
Its a political strategy!
