Puntland Petroleum Minister Speaks on Dharoor Progress

Earlier today, Bosaso-based radio station Daljir aired an interview with Puntland petroleum minister Issa Farrah. The minister, still on a high-level diplomatic trip in the UAE alongside President ‘Faroole’, gave the first official address on the recent progress at the Shabeel-1 well in the Dharoor basin.

Farrah stated that while oil has not yet been extracted to the surface, positive signs have been found, while not alluding to any specific possibility. He said that good progress has been made and that the signals are lit for the extraction of fossil fuels very shortly.

His rhetoric stopped just short of announcing that oil had been extracted, but gave every indication that it was there and ready to be driven to the surface.

As previously reported here, an official announcement is expected from the regional leader, Abdirahman Mohamed Mahamud ‘Faroole’ in the coming days, alongside a recently-announced update from Range Resources, one of the earliest explorers in the region post-war.
