Gedo might have the most prospective oil in Somalia.

Post by Voltage »

So today I was speaking with a former government official about the oil stuff and he told me few people know about it in Somalia but the most prospective oil wells in Somalia might actually be in Gedo, something called the "Mandera-Lugh" corridor. Right before the government fell the oil company Total was given complete contract over it and he told me unlike the other oil blocks in Somalia which never never were put to the test, the wells in the northeastern Kenya part of the the Mandera-Lugh corridor tested positive for large seep. He told me from Mandera on the border of Gedo, over Beled-Hawo District, and Dollow district to Luuq have oil that can make all of Somalia rich. Immense research will have to be done to uncover this for us.

Just look at those oil tracts extending deep into Jubbaland.

Just couple months ago, Kenya quietly awarded their part of the Mandera-Lugh tract to a Vancouver, Canada based oil group called "Simba Energy" (drilling for potential in Puntland is also a Vancouver, Canada based company called Africa Oil...I'm thinking these names are affiliates of one supra-energy group interested in East Africa without using old and usual names)...however MOST of the tract is in Somalia (northern Gedo) and southwestern Ethiopia bordering Gedo. Can I also question why Meles Zenewi and his regime have all of a sudden started rewarding Beesha Sade districts in Liban Zone?

Kenya’s Ministry of Energy has awarded the 7,802 sq km Block 2A in northeastern Kenya to Simba Energy Inc., Vancouver, BC.

Block 2A, 300 miles northeast of Nairobi and bordering Somalia, overlies the southern tip of the Mandera basin, in which only four wells have been drilled, and the southwest corner of the block extends into the Anza basin. Total SA’s Tarbaj stratigraphic well encountered oil shows at 40-44 m.

The Mandera basin is Permo-Triassic to Tertiary in age with 10,000 m of sediments. Potential source rock interval is mid Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous and comparable with the larger Mandera-Lugh basin in Ethiopia and Somalia.

Under the Lion deal Raytec will gain access to two blocks in Kenya that Lion has title to, Blocks 1 and 2B. Block 1 covers an area of approximately 31,781 sq km forming part of the western portion of the Mandera-Lugh basin that occupies part of the northeastern territory of Kenya and extends into Somalia and Ethiopia.

The type of sediment in the basin is Jurassic period older and unique to most of the surrounding rock sediments. The British called it "Marehan Sandstone" and it is still called that
During the Middle and Upper Jurassic, the Proto-Indian Ocean was opening and marine
conditions prevailed in the Mandera-Lugh and Lamu basins, leading to the deposition of
marine sediments such as evaporites and limestones in both basins
(Figure 6, E, F, G). The
marine conditions ceased with the occurrence of an uplift phase of the Mandera area
towards the end of the Jurassic and Early Cretaceous by the deposition of the Marehan
sandstone
(Figure 6 H). The Anza Graben truncated the Mandera-Lugh basin to the
southeast and led to the continental fluvial-lacustrine sedimentation in the whole graben

From Garbahareey, Luuq, Ceel-Waaq, Dollow, Beled-Xaawo as south as Baardheere and as west as Wajeer is covered by the "Marehan sandstone" that forms the Mandera-Lugh Basin

Is Total the one company concerning the offshore oil now? It seems after all this time they know what comes under Jubbaland State resources.

If you notice the map, there are proven oil shows in all these tracts but the one place on the map that says "oil discovery" is few kilometers above Dollow, Gedo (Somalia) in Ethiopia part of the larger Mandera-Lugh basin and which is part of the land the Meles regime recently awarded as the new Dheka district of Liban Zone to Marehan. How many people are blind to the realities surrounding us waa yaab wallahi and Kenya was awarding contracts after all this time now when they have entered Jubbaland

I am sure it's not just gedo. Somalia sits on oil as well as gold and other resources. There's no reason for Somalis in Somalia to starve with such extensive resources available to the nation. Instead of fighting over who owns what and where, which stalls time and leaves a gap for foreign intervention under the disguise of 'helping somalia(resource exploitation), we should work together and use the resources to our advantage. It's more than enough for us all.

I agree with you totally from the border of Djibouti to the offshore coast of Kismaayo and to the interior Somalis are being shown to be resource blessed, when will they take advantage of it for good?
