Why do they belittle hard blue collar workers yet promote welfare?

You are better off taking Ontario Works than having a $25,000 job. This is especially true if you have kids.
Re: I dont get somalis
^ Truth. Its mathematics. Plus Ontario's labour/manufacturing sectors are dead. There are no real jobs out there for older generation Somalis even if they wanted to work.

Pride and ignorance, mostly.
And if they had no kids, do you think they should still take it instead of getting a job?fighter wrote:You are better off taking Ontario Works than having a $25,000 job. This is especially true if you have kids.
I've found it pretty easy to get a job in labour. But this is probably true in the greater scheme.Jaidi wrote:^ Truth. Its mathematics. Plus Ontario's labour/manufacturing sectors are dead. There are no real jobs out there for older generation Somalis even if they wanted to work.

Ontario Works doesn't make sense without a family.

Alpha,
I personally don't believe in taking welfare if you are single or married with kids. However, you are better off taking welfare than working in some cases. If you are going to be making minimum wage, what's the point? Humans dont like it work. I understand that a single person gets $600 a month from Ontario. Then they have their apartment/utilities paid for by the government and they also give you a bus pass. This is much more attractive than working 40 hours a week at a minimum wage job living in the same conditions as someone on Ontario Works. There are Somali families in the community who get $2000-$2500 a month and at the same time have their rent paid for by the government.
Although I wouldn't personally do it, it is much more attractive than finding a job (considering you don't have skills and will have to settle for minimum wage jobs)

id rather struggle off my own 5 bucks then a 100 dollar hand out. unless it was the difference between being homeless and having a home.... but suck up my pride so I can go from making it to living comfortably? Hell no, Somalis have all the pride in the world when it comes to appearances but no pride at all when it comes to what they do in private.

Simple mathematics. If you opt out for whatever reason, then you are an idiot.

Re: I dont get somalis
lol How are features of a social safety net a handout? You pay into this system as a citizen, so why wouldn't you tap into it if need be? Older generation Somalis with little employable skills, no experience, language barrier etc. its understandable why they do what they do. Slaving at Tim Hortons to prove some strange point about honor aint feeding your kids
This discussion diverges if we are talking about the younger generation however.

Fighter,
Short term it seems attractive for them but their youth and upbringing provides them key advantages in order to make themselves more employable. They've essentially maxed out any potential to up their credentials by resigning themselves to it. There are a few who are smart and improving their prospects while taking it but majority are stagnant.
The guys who really think they made it are the ones who are profiting off illegal activity while taking Ontario Works

Somalis here are extremely adept at manipulating the government to receive a lot of cash. They're not about to let go of that to work some dead end walmart job

If you have basic human function, you can find a job, judging from experience.fighter wrote:Alpha,

A 40hr/week minimum wage job at 1450/month would allow a single person to save $5000~ a year. Nearly triple if they're able to make $25,000 annually. That's investing power that can pull one out of squalor inner city conditions. People have shitty spending habits and selfdestructive pride that keeps them stuck on welfare. When they're getting married and popping out kids all on welfare, they don't care. Most of them don't realize the value of a dollar.

Don't let anyone ever daunt you from working. I'd rather bust my ass doing a minimum wage job than take a welfare.
