If you are not at a close proximity to a mosque where you could hear the call to prayer (atham), and its time to pray, do you have to (atham ) or only (akhim) before praying?

You don't have to do either, as they have no bearing on the correctness of the salat. But it is sunnah to make the call to prayer, adhan even if you are by yourself, as jin could also be praying behind you, and iqama right before you enter the salat.
