Lately I was wondering whether its possible to compare religions, civilizations using the moral superiority as criteria?
For instance can we declare that Islam is moraly suprior than Christianity when it come to its law and regulations and practices of slavery?
or Can we pretend that Islamic civilization was morally superior than the others in its way of conducting war, treating conquered people etc...

Lets pease discuss in polite manner.

Moral superiority is derived from your conduct not just from proclamation.
Muslim proclaim to be superior but don`t conduct in that matter.
But Islamic law is theoretically superior to western law it’s just muslims are selective
.
In islam there is no such thing as slavery. Muslim didn`t practise the same slavery as the west.
The western slavery was based on racial and economic interest.
Inalienable rights where granted to slaves and benifiet where granted to the master under islam
In an era where fosil fuel is the main source of energy it’s easy for you to dismiss the central role slave man power played historically and Islamic laws are a reflection but it discourages yet its permissible meaning you are not recommended, because islam was for yesterday and today and islam anticipated a time where slavery was not required

You cannot use morality as your base and judge abstract things such as civilisation and institutions.

The problem with modern people is they view morality through the prism of custom and that means as your costums change your morality changes but we know what was wrong yesterday is wrong today.

To say slavery is bad today stems from custom based thinking and not universal truth
Islam is universal trut and is not bound by the changing costumes

Shrib, my intention was not to raise the question of superiority at personal level or theory...
That is why I clearly stated at the population or civilization level.

Some mujahids justly raised the question of relativisn when speaking of Morality...my question is not about morality...its moral.
I mean there are few things that through ages and places are considered as good or bad!

Mujaahid Eaglehawk I salute u, and I salute the image of the uncomparable Mujahid Ilay u use as avatar.
This being said I think we can all agree, that slavery is horific thing to be combatted!

Do u guys believe that Islam made muslims better people than the others when it comes to their behaviour?
Or it is not the goal of Islam or any other religion to make its adherents better people?
