Agriculture Major.

Post by zingii »

I want to change my school major from civil engineering to agriculture.
I looked at the courses offered and couldn't find agriculture course.

It could be that they dont call it agriculture and have a different name for it. For those who attend UNI plz help in finding what other course name they use for agriculture.

thx in advance.

"Agriculture" covers a huge range of material, from applied lessons in chemistry, physics, ecology, biology, meteorology, etc, to theories in economics, policy, management, etc. "Agronomy" is what encompasses all those lessons, usually, but schools often have different names for it. I think the schools that offer the best in the field have departments established for agrosciences.

If you're in the States or Canada, there are some great schools that offer intense work in this field. But they are few.

I discovered that i was poor in math and usually tended to give me headache.
This made me to reconsider my options.

petroleum engineering sounded good and had me day dreaming for we now know
the oil prospect in Somalia, too bad for it would mean i have to take lots of math.

after realizing my dwindling options, i pictured my self as the WASIIRKA BEERAHA.
to be one means i have to know the ins and outs of BEERO techniques.

if i take agriculture classes coupled with political science course, i could make it big
through JUBALAND connections to get my foot in the political arena.

I think you should base your motivations not just on your "likings" but your potential contribution to society, and in this case civil engineering is a valuable and a highly practical career option and thwarts most of other choices. Maths can be a really big obstacle but in princpile is really valuable to know in this day and age. If you think there's a major obstacle then i suggest you work your ass off to overcome it. I know a lot of average minded people who were able to breaze through the most difficult engineering courses just by setting their mind to it and working hard, but it ultimately comes down to what you wanna do with your life, if you cant see yourself doing engineering in the future or think maths is something you can't work around at all, then its best to change courses. But remember that the other side of the fence may not be always what you envision it to be. Do some research.

I was never good in math(and still not), but I didn't let that get me down from pursuing something I wanted to do. It might be hard, but practice does help.

zingii, check out this interview when you have time. It's with an Oromo professor in agriculture. He also made the switch from engineering to agriculture, which he talks about.

http://www.ertagov.com/en/etv-interview ... jeta-.html

At the end of the day it's about where you see yourself and what you want to do with your life. Alot of people are closed minded and think academic success is only in going to medschool or studying engineering. That's just not the case.

Agronomy is not the easy way out. There is a reason companies pay for your entire schooling, if you work for them.

Anyone who can talk well and has connections can get into politics. Agriculture is a thorough science.
